What the hell did you do to these eggs before sending them to me? Give them freaking steriods or something? I mean, they're putting my eggs to shame, hatching on day 19 and all! WTH??? One has already hatched and AT LEAST 3 more have pipped! I'm just baffled and amazed....

Maybe they heard about my encounter with Joey and want to stay on my good side....

Too funny about "Grandma"

They are so tiny and helpless looking when they first pop out, it's amazing how quickly they grow up.

One more hatched over night, this one is a buff colored chick with black stripes.

Then there's several more pipped - some are even from my hens!!!

Whew....I thought for a minute that katie's chicks did something to my chicks....kind of like a hostile takeover to dominate the hen house

Sorry PCC - I realized I never even answered your questions!

The soaps you make look awesome, how much milk do you use for a "batch"?
A 4# batch (which is usually 1 log's worth) requires anywhere from 15-17oz of milk. I typically make 8# batches, but still freeze the milk in ~16oz bags just in case I only want to do a small batch.

Man, there are soooo many more question I could ask, I guess I'm gonna have to reseach this more!!! We've got 6 people in our house, and believe you me, Momma does a LOT of laundry, can you use this soap as laundry soap?
From what I've been told, no. I guess I could make a lye-heavy laundry bar with no milk...something like a 100% coconut oil bar. I just went and bought some Fels Naptha bars from Walmart....they were $0.97 each so I figured that was just easier than making my own, waiting for it to cure, finding out I did it wrong....etc.

How long till you get your barn/shed from CL?
We can pick it up Saturday May 14th. I'm so excited about it. It's in such good condition and now that I don't spray milk everywhere when milking it'll stay clean! I'm going to put some walls or linolium floor on the floors/walls so it wipes off easily, but that'll come in due time!

Hey,,, Thanks for the info!!! I'm still on the fence about this goat thing haha.

The kids like showing them in 4H, and we've done a couple of open shows that were local, but that's it. We sold 2 wethers in the 4H auction last year so that helped a little as far as the fed bill goes (the kids do get "some" of the money). But I'd rather raise something I know everyone will eat, and that's PIGS!!!

We're kicking around the idea of getting rid of the 7 Boers, and keeping the 2 Togg does (mother & daughter) and then getting a couple of hogs in their place, but we'll see, none of the kids have expressed an interest in show pigs in 4H. Their cousins do, so I don't think it'll be a hard sell, if ya know what I mean.

Nice chick pics :p anymore on the "floor"???
