Wow, poor girl! Thank goodness she is finally getting the medical help she needs....can't believe this has gone undianosed for so long. This is why I can't stand doctors!
This was the email she sent today.. (sorry, getting caught up with some finals)
As of 2:20 our time they removed her chest tube, her heart drainage tube and finally her breathing tube. The next 24 hours are crucial says her team of drs. There is a slight possibility that she has to be intubated again aka breathing tube back in. It depends on if her lung tube "hole" leaks air or not. Likely not.
First word was "germs". She has been hallucinating due to the drug withdrawals and is seeing giant colorful germ shaped things. She doesn't have her voice yet, it is just mouthing air b/c her throat is still sore. In between the "visions" she is answering questions and preforming simple tasks. She is very weak and sleeps a lot. She has tons of healing left to do.
(Did you guys know her first surgeon was from TX? He was here doing "Army Reserves" and they put him to work at the hospital. Normally he works at TX Childrens. And one of her picu Drs was from Wisconsin. A huge Packer's fan too. How ironic!)
Thanks BB for the update and I apologize for being impatient. You do have a life too, and have been more than generous by keeping us informed. I'll be keeping Sam & Sally in my prayers. This for you too BB.
