Send Sally and Sam good thoughts from me, too, BB. I know this is so tough of both of them. Nothing worse than sitting in a hospital with a sick child. Tell her to remember to breath. Deep calming breaths - and to take care of herself.

I just received a wonderful update from Sally!

It is as follows;

Today I was told that there is a strong possibility that Sam will be going home late next week, Fri, Sat or Sun!!

She is still on pretty heavy narcotics though she is continuing the "weaning process" slowly but surely. (She has been up there since Sept. 3rd!!) Her pharmacist keeps a close eye on any signs of withdrawal. We have been seeing some in the form of sweating, crying and saying "I'm sorry" etc. but all in all, she is handling the weaning process pretty darn well. I can almost guarantee she will NEVER experiment with drugs after this!

After a few days at home, she will probably have to go to an intensive month long "rehab" center to get her back up and running at 100%. She will probably have to live there. Weird, I know, but needed. It is mainly for her physical therapy though possibly for some cognitive-type therapy...however, I don't think she will need much of the later. She is reading and remembering more and more every day. (Personally, I think she will be 100% ok in the head when the drugs fade away.) By the way this rehab is normal for anyone who was sedated for 2 weeks...which is what they have to do to anyone after lung surgery. So don't worry, this is normal procedure, and has nothing really to do with her heart stopping for 10 minutes.

She is talking and laughing; sometimes it makes sense, sometimes not...however anything she says is cute and I love, love, LOVE to hear her laugh!

Today she had a shower! Took two nurses had to help, but now she finally has some nice clean hair! I was beginning to think we had a bio hazard on our hands. She was going to donate her hair to locks of love, so she has quite a bit of it, and boy, it all needed a good scrubbing! The rest of her not so much b/c she has been getting sponge bathed. (The nurses came back all wet, that was funny.)

She has been standing and "walking" (looks like slow dancing with her nurses really) and even stood up in the shower when needed. She sat in her wheelchair off and on all day. She even got a new (regular) bed delivered, her "bed sore bed" is gone for good! (She went through 3 of them! Two robotics and one blow up bed.)

She can brush her own hair and teeth now, she puts on chap stick and lotions up her hands, arms, legs and feet. Oh, she can take off and put on her socks now too. She is getting her strength back quickly! She will be practicing dressing herself tomorrow.

She is having her "swallow test" done tomorrow too to see if she can have solid food yet. Cross your fingers, I sure would love to see NO more tubes taped to her face. Did I mention, she is off oxygen all together? All she will have left is her lonley "drug" iv. She used to have three-pronged iv lines in her neck, both arms, and both feet...plus a single iv in her tummy and on a wrist (that's 17 lines off and on all together)...so, as you can see, she has really come a LONG way! Now you understand why she has to go through such a big "weaning process".

I think that is about it.

Love, Sally

That is so wonderful! Thank the Lord for big miracles! We really take this life we live for granted, don't we? Can you imagine what this young girl is going through?

What a strong young woman! Takes after her mama! :)
