Roller skates traditionally had 2 front wheels and 2 back wheels on each skate. Roller blades have all the wheels in a straight line instead. Stopping is done different in them too.
You may have spent too long on the bike when you body wasn't used to it yet. Some bike seats are awful though. They make cushy bike seats that you can put on instead.

No, not joking, sadly :/
I was never taught a lot of things. Can't whistle, blow bubbles with gum, rollerblade, skateboard, iceskate.. The last three things always costed money anyway.

BUT I know a lot of things that make up for it!

I would still like to learn how to swim though, because I'll probably need that skill in the future. My brother and I had swimming lessons when I was young but they failed me because wouldn't put my head under water - this was before those ear thingies to prevent water from getting in. I got earaches often as a kid anyway, but when I got water in them, NOTHING would help, and they were very painful. Darn it all anyway.

Edit;
Ok Sally, you're on!

(Did you listen to my message??)
You definitely need to learn how to blow bubbles! You don not know what you're missing!

Also be sure the bike seat is properly adjusted.

You should have your leg completely extended when the pedal is in the down position. Also there is a front back adjustment on the seat that can make it more comfortable.

Congrats on your new Eco friendly skill. :clap

Now get some Bubblegum and I will teach you how to blow a bubble. Easy as pie! :D

:clap Yay! Good for you. I wish I was a better swimmer. I can keep myself afloat and get from one end of a pool to another but that's about it. DS still can't swim at 8. He sinks like a rock and gets exhausted trying to get very far. He learned to ride his bike without training wheels a week ago. He just wasn't ready. Then he outgrew the bike with training wheels and had no choice but to figure it out. He's always learned that way, at his own pace, on his own terms.
Now I have to get my bike tuned up so I can take him out to our local bike trail where we can ride safely. Our house is on top of a twisting hill and it is not safe to ride past our little dead end road which gets boring....

Congratulations!! I think learning these things when your a bit older are just fine. I wish I was taught some of your farm skills at a younger age.

Roller skating was a big deal for me when I was young. It was free and I could go anywhere. I used to roller skate miles to the beach and back when I was in high school. Geesh, I miss flat land.

Couldn't agree more. I can not ice skate or roller blade to save my soul. My ankles turn in, I can't find my balance and I worry about breaking bones.
I can make a whistling sound, can't hold a tune, and can't do the two finger "get your butt home" whistle but sure wish I could!
Now bubbles I can do. Spent waaaaaaaaaay to much $$$ on Bazooka as a kid and have the fillings to show for it.
I learned to milk a goat at 46!!!

I thought roller-blading and roller-skating were the same things... what's the difference?

I think I need to put a pillow on the bike seat.. my butt hurts!
Many bike seats are actually harmful to men. If it is an older bike, get a new seat from a bike shop if you plan on spending any amount of time on it. Expensive does not mean good, btw!

I took swimming lessons at age 40. I also don't like water anywhere on my face, and don't even get my face wet in the shower. I wash it with a cloth. Makes swimming challenging. I take a foam noodle into the lake so I can "swim" with my older dog. I couldn't save myself, but now I can say I "know" how to swim!

I rode my bike all the time until we moved to Maine when I was 13. Then I rode my horse everywhere. I went on a bike ride with my nephew a few years ago and found out that YOU DO FORGET!!!

being in the water is one of my all time favorite things. i used to get in trouble all the time as a little kid for falling asleep in the bathtub and making people think i was dead. my grandmother broke a door down when i was 4 to find me completely submerged with only my lips and nose out of the water, totally sound asleep. so then i wasn't allowed to lock the door when i took a bath.

i scuba dived for the first time when i was 7. then i thought i wanted to be a marine biologist. and i got my scuba diving license when i was 16 (which is pretty rare for kids who live in landlocked states).

i'm always sad for people who can't/don't swim because it's such a joy for me. i have several friends from the NE that swim, but not well and with little enjoyment. it totally baffles me. and they are totally confused by the fact that i could spend hours and hours just floating around (turns out body fat is good for something!).

come down to TN and i'll teach you to swim. the lake it pretty perfect right now.

(congrats on learning to ride a bike. i'm not particularly good at it. and i can't skate- ice or otherwise.)

I can't swim either and promise you I am much, much older than you. Growing up my mother never let me near the water. After I got older and wanted to swim, I discovered I don't like water or water sports at all. I can not stand to have water in my face.

So as much as you really "need" to learn how to swim. Its something I never did.

I can roller skate and ride a bike though. Does that count.

:woot For you learing new things.
