I posted a wanted ad for canning stuff, and a woman wrote me and this is what she has:

QUARTS:
3 dozen regular mouth
1 dozen wide mouth
1 dozen regular mouth- unopened with seals and bands

PINTS:
8 dozen regular mouth jars plus 11 more
1 dozen wide mouth jars plus 5 more

JELLY:
7 half pint jars with reg mouth
10 half pint wide mouth jars
1 dozen plus 10 more 12 oz. quilted jelly jars

SEALS:

31/2 dozen wide seals in the box
41/2 dozen regular seals in box
I found some open seals in the box with the rings, they were not in their original box, but I'm pretty sure that they are good- it's 5 wide mouth, and 25 regular ones.

I have 1 box of wide rings and one box of reg rings(as seen in the pics)

There is the canner (my note: this canner is a water bath canner, and she noted that the rack is a little rusty), funnel, and tongs to remove the jars

I also found the food mill. It's a very handy tool. I've used it to make apple sauce and tomato juice. I still have the box and I paid $42.49 for it.

She's asking $100.00 for the whole lot. This is a good deal, right?? Just wanted to be sure I didn't need to counter offer her anything. Only other thing she noted (other than the rusty rack for the canner) is that some of the jars are old, and came from her husband's grandmother.
This would give me a HUGE boost for my canning supplies, I don't have many of anything, and this would be a fantastic way to really get started!
:fl I hope this is a good deal!!!

i WOULD GRAB IT. The Canner pot alone is expensive, Old jars are no problem unless the rims are chipped. Seals are a different problem there is really no way to know if they are good without trying them they can go bad in the box. I would buy some new seals to have on hand just in case but use hers up first and mark yours to use later. GRAB IT!

I think it is a good deal BUT I WOULD also make a lower offer. I would tell her you will take all for $80

I bet you get it---and if you don't, tell her to split the diff. and pay $90

that is alot of stuff.

but my gut always says never ever pay what someone is asking

I agree. I ALWAYS make an offer. They might not take it, but 9 out of 10 times they do.

Sounds like a good deal though.

Definately make a counter offer, however, it is a good deal. Around here, it'd be approximately $110 for all the jars, lids and canner brand new. Not sure how much a grain mill would cost around here, but if it's around $40 new, then yeah, it's about $150 worth of stuff.

Yep, offer $80 but be willing to pay full price if you have to. That's a pretty good deal.

Late to the party, but around here $5/dozen is a pretty typical offer for used jars. I'd definitely counter offer the $80 and go from there :)
