Aw, thanks guys!
I have heard back from the principal. She acknowledged how much she appreciates our continued involvement with the staff over DS's issues. She is the reason I am going to feel guilt over taking him out of this school. (I feel some over the fact that I'm part of the system too. I admitted to my principal that we were putting him in the Catholic school next year and she said she understood given the circumstances.) DS's principal was surprised to hear that recess is being taken away from him since we've discussed it before and she knows my concerns. She appreciated that I was up front with her. I feel more confident that the meeting will be productive and not a battle over medicating vs not medicating. I plan to have some information about the effects of stimulant ADHD meds to address my concerns. (Growth retardation when DS is already only in the 5th percentile of the growth charts???) Hopefully I won't need them.
2 days 'til break. One at the high school, one at the elementary school, then 10 days off. A busy week of doctor's appointments (DS pediatrician appt., my naturopath follow up, DH dentist) baseball practice, cleaning, planting, day trips. I'm tired just thinking about it. Then 35 days left of the school year. I was tempted to make brownies for my students but I only have two Thursday students who would eat them and one is likely to blow off my session and the other will try. If I corner him and don't back down he'll finally consent to come but only after putting on a show of how horrible it is in front of his friends. Then he gets upstairs and gets totally into this Native American research he wanted to do. I caught a spark of interest when he was looking at a book lying around and turned it into a vocabulary and grammar unit for him. He won't ever admit it but he's enjoying it. The rest of the kiddos are autistic and don't eat sweets by choice or medically fragile and can't eat them. Leaving me and my supervisor looking at a tray of brownies when both of us are not eating gluten!
