Happy Easter to all who celebrate! It is a perfect day here in CT. The sun is shining and it's in the 70s, reaching for the record books.
Dinner is underway for our small "crowd" of 7. I have heard nothing from DB and his GF so I am assuming they are coming at 4 with wine and salad as promised. I've made that assumption before though.
It is so glorious out that we are planning on eating on the deck. DH put up the awning because it will be too sunny otherwise.

GF spice cake is done! BBR>
Okay, that's cooling. Ham is in the oven. I need to start potatoes.
I am so distressed about having to work tomorrow. I love when Easter falls during our April vacation. Ugh. 4 church services in as many days, plus set up and rehearsal yesterday for last night's vigil. Several hours of Little League field clean up yesterday as well. Cooking all afternoon. It's too easy to lose sight of what the day is really all about! We did have a beautiful service this morning so I'll have to hold on to that. And the sunshine helps too.
My birds are free-ranging for the first time in forever. We're out in the yard off and on so we can watch for our hawk.
My gingered asparagus is marinating. I still have potatoes to do. I'm doing scalloped. My mom usually does them but manages to undercook the potatoes everytime. :/ DB will complain that I made them with cream and butter. My dad would have joined him in the past but he's starting to come around on the fat issue.
I hope you all have a wonderful day. I'm going to start peeling potatoes. Not much else I can do with the ham taking up the oven.

Our dinner was fantastic. I caved in and tried the potatoes and have been sorry ever since. It wasn't worth it! I should have stuck to the ham and veggies. Ugh!
DS came home with yet another office referral today. The short version is that another boy pushed him down at recess so DS chased after him and punched him in the chest. The boy claimed it was accidental. DS says no. My mom knows the other boy and is fairly sure that he'd do it on purpose. DS claims the boy then taunted him to chase after him. DS's teacher was on duty but didn't see it happen. Based on the other boy's report she put DS "on the wall" for the rest of recess. Then another student complained that he cut in line and said she'd tell on him so he threatened to punch her. That got him sent to the office and written up. He had a conversation with the principal about how to deal with this anger. She'll be following up with him. No mention of the school pysch being brought into it. We're supposed to meet after vacation to discuss ADD and behavior. I'm not sure I'm going to make it until then.
The silver lining is that we received our IRS refund check today, for about $2K less than we thought. So DH called the 800 # and actually got through to a human who went through our return and found DH's mistakes. We'll be getting a second check in two weeks to make up the difference plus the amount that DH missed. We'll be able to put a bigger chunk down for school tuition than we thought. I'm holding on to that thought as I get ready for tomorrow.
9 more school days 'til April vacation.

Better day today, except the same boy tried to cause problems at recess again today.

8 more days.

Ugh, puppy has discovered he can get under the fence in one spot. Soft ground following all our rain last week. We found him running around playing with the German Shepherds next door. Their yard isn't fenced so that is not a good thing. We got him back under (had to sacrifice an organic uncured grassfed beef hotdog to do it.
Need to work on the training a bit!
DH will have to spend the next few afternoons fixing the fence so he can't get under. Fun fun!

Little League practices started tonight. This is our first year with this league. We did Tee-Ball with a different group but their Little League practices conflict with Cub Scouts. I worried about DS being involved in too many things but he really wants to play. And I LOVE baseball so I let him. Practice went well except the coach's son is a BRAT. He targeted DS almost immediately. They were lined up to do some running exercises and the coach told them to extend their arms sideways to make sure they had enough room. This kid just had to smack DS's hand. DS ignored him and moved over. Then they were walking past each other and the kid smack under DS's cap knocking it off his head. It was one thing after another. At one point they were near me and I complimented DS for making good choices about his behavior and it stopped after that. Apparently the other kid realized I was watching him. I noticed he was disrespectful to his father numerous times. One boy decided to do a cartwheel in the outfield. DS just had to one too. The coach's kid couldn't just do one, he had to preface it with "That sucked, watch this!" and fell on his butt. DS just kept doing his own cartwheels until the coach gave them something else to do.
All in all DS had a great time and played well.
I've got 4 out of 6 pea shoots up. Two in each pot I planted (they're miniature varieties). We've had unseasonably warm temps. (90s yesterday) which has my gardening brain all confused. It felt like there should have been tomatoes to stake!

Aw, I'm sorry your son has to deal with a bratty bully, glad it turned out ok.
Kind of jealous about the peas. I love peas!

I actually don't like them unless they're sugar snaps. But I do like to grow them for my family!

I survived!!! We were out in the woods for three and a half hours. We did a couple of hills. Only stopped once. You'd think no big deal, right? But 3 months ago I couldn't have done this!! My plantar fasciitis was so bad I had to bail on a two mile walk around town for a fund raiser this winter. It was pathetic! To be able to do this today proved to me my health is improving. When we stopped I sat on a log looking out over the lake and was almost in tears at the thought I'd gotten so unhealthy I'd miss moments like that. I held my own and did as well as any of the kids and most of the adults. Phew!
I am gonna hurt tomorrow though. My calves are screamin'!
