Agreed! Very unusual for this area.
With the weather predictions I decided to milk her sooner rather than later. So DH held her and she sort of cooperated. (No milk stand yet) I got two cups! She was milked late this morning so I guess that's not unusual. I milked until nothing more came out.
DH will be building my milk stand tomorrow. That was not a lot of fun.

Gosh I hate tornados!!

I had one go right over my house back in 2001 in TX. It was the most frightning thing I ever had to endure, beside the snake bite to my ankle in '88. You just gotta love TX, don't ya?

My house was ok, windows were broken due to stuff flying around. It took my barn though. I had to go on a saddle hunt out in the pasture the next day. Saddles were everywhere!!

Stay safe!!!!!!! (Cute goat pic!!!!)

:woot Congratulations and welcome to the dark side!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Free needs a new name. Darth Goatherd.
Bwahahahahahahaha!!! Luke, I am your father.....

Yay, Donki!!! Yay, baby goats!!! Your DS had so much fun with Paul's buckling, I just knew he'd have a blast with your goaties. And they with him.

Expect to get more milk tomorrow, or soon at least. She should be giving you more per milking, but the move and excitment of the new place may be reducing her output tonight. If you have some yogurt whey, I'd throw a little in her feed each time, like an ounce or so. The best probios are live rather than dried.

You don't think the kids are nursing on her, do you? Not likely that she'd allow it, since she didn't nurse any kids at all this season.

OK, get ready for goat cheese!! You need to get your books and equipment soon. But you will have plenty to do with the milk for now....yogurt, pudding, shakes, ice cream...... :drool I have eight quart jars warming up in the sink right now for a batch of yogurt. It keeps for weeks and weeks in the fridge.

BBH!!! We need the whole story, girl....dish!

Rumor has it that a tornado touched down in Hartland this afternoon, not far from where we live. Southwick sticks into CT, so I usually look at the CT weather to get a more accurate report....yikes!!!

Thanks, we're fine but under a new watch today. The wind is blowing a bit which is good since it is steamy out there and in here.
Donki was even more kicky this morning and spilled 3 cups of milk on me. Literally. Oh well, I know it happens. I think I would have had 5 cups from this morning's milking if she hadn't.
DH is busy building the folding milking stand from the Storey's Guide. It seems perfect for our set-up.
Donki is having one large slightly mushy poop rather than little berries. Stress from the move? I'm thinking that Free's whey idea would be good for this? I do have yogurt I made from the milk Paul gave me, which would be her own I think. I'm straining some now for yogurt cheese and whey. She's eating just fine and is sweet and lovey whenever we go down to visit.
They've all settle some and are quieter. I don't think I've ever heard a Nubian before. Oh my! :ep No complaints yet. :hide Altogether the birds are noisier.
The twins are warming up to me. Little bits of apple are helping. DS has them wrapped around his little finger. Yesterday he taught Daisy to walk across the seesaw. When I let the twins out so they would be out of the way when we milked Donki she went right to the seesaw and pawed at it. Within minutes she had jumped up on it and walked all the way across causing it to tip down. Thomas hasn't gotten brave enough yet.
I don't want to go to work tomorrow!!! It was torture leaving them to go to church this morning. And DH stayed home to work on the stand.

Got on the scale this morning. 30 lbs gone!!!
I still don't have my bloodwork results but I can tell you my bad cholesterol is down 35 points and gone from the small dense really bad kind to the big squishy kind (I think those are the technical terms... :gig ) I am also no longer borderline hypothyroid or prediabetic. :ya

Great to hear your health is improving!! That is an amazing feat. The goatees sound like they are settling in and doing well. Be sure to get some pics of the milking stand. I would love to see it.

Thanks! I did it before with Weight Watchers, but not in a healthy way I could maintain. This just feels like the right way to eat for me. Obviously my body agrees!

He's installing the milking stand now. Hopefully we can use it tonight. I think I just heard a distant rumble of thunder.... thunderstorm warning is cancelled but tornado watch continues until 8pm.
