honey, the after school whining is all a part of being a teacher! :hugs
You're right, it's either that or drink to excess...... I'm trying to limit myself to Two Woodchuck hard ciders a weekend. It's gluten free!!
I just feel bad that all I have the energy to do here is whine. I haven't even read most of the other threads. :/ Three day weekend coming. Maybe I'll catch up then??? Ha!
Better day today, slower pace. One of my difficult students had a fantastic session, the best in the year + I've worked with her.
Made a yummy pork roast in the crockpot and everyone said it was delish! DS has gained a pound and a half since school started. He's been eating allergen free since late spring. I think paired with less school stress and a nice routine we're starting to see results. Unfortunately all the uniform pants I bought him are probably going to be too short in another month. :barnie Not complaining though!
Still haven't gottem myself totally back on track. Baby steps. Can't figure out why I'm suddenly craving carbs so badly.
Looking forward to a nice weekend after a week of rain. Many events going on plus the chance to just hang out at home for three days. DH will probably go down to his parents' house to take down their awning and do a few other autumn chores that his dad usually does. DS and I may go to the cheese tasting at a local goat farm or to the Highland Festival or Sturbridge Village or the apple festival at the orchard.... mostly I just want to breathe.
Our church is putting on a Festival of Creativity weekend in November. We'll each be able to put up a display of our creations or present them if they are "creation in motion". I'm working on my list:
Hand made greeting cards
felted items
a drawing I did of a guitar that actually doesn't stink
scrapbook pages
jellies and jams
cheese
a letterbox with handmade book and hand carved stamp. I will do a little presentation about how to find a letterbox using a clue then hide the box for people to find on the grounds during the weekend.
DH is decling to do a drum solo :hu I think it would sound great in a 176 year old church!!

Alright!!! I can leave in 8 minutes because I got to work 10 minutes early this morning!!! :woot Three day weekend and no students Tuesday (workshop day). I'll take it!! Loose plans include Highland Festival in Scotland (CT), Apple Festival, Goat farm tour and cheese tasting, letterboxing, cleaning the barn, planting garlic, fencing the garden, cleaning, organizing, cooking, and saving the world. Think I can do it all in 3 days? :gig

:barnie Well, we started off with a bang. DH went to get hay at the farm where we always get hay only to find they're OUT. Completely! Yikes. We have enough for like 2 days. (No storage for a winter's worth). As soon as DH called to tell me I got busy looking for alternatives. My first thought was a farm in the town where DH used to teach. He called them as soon as he got back and they have a barn full. We drove over to check it out and it seems as good as what we were getting. Smells fresh and sweet. We're going back Sunday or Monday to buy from the field since they'll be cutting. We're going to cram as much as we can into the shed where we store it. We can probably get 10 or maybe 12 bales in there if we work at it. Scary!!!

See if THEY have storage. Sometimes you can find a farm that will allow you to pre-pay bales and then they keep them in a barn somewhere for you.

It is comforting to both parties. The farmer KNOWS his surplus is sold and you won't have to hunt bales in January. ;)

Ooo, that could work. These folks LOVE DH. A bunch of their kids and grandkids have had him as a teacher. They're not happy he left the school but don't blame him. Only bad part, they tried to give DS a kitten. Oh, it was the cutest little calico and DH had to all but lock me in the truck! He won't let me come when he goes back.....

I find your post about eating too many carbs making you tired interesting. I have been feeling like crap lately and I am convinced it is my eating habits. I so need to do a better job taking care of me.

:hugs When I take the time I feel sooooo much better. For the past month, dealing with back to school, and keeping everyone else fed and healthy I've let my own habits slide and I sure can tell the difference. I'm exhausted at the end of the day. My concentration stinks. I'm cranky.
I started by doing some reading, from Nourishing Traditions to books recommended by my naturopath. After a month of low carb eating I felt really great. Too bad my life gets in the way of my life sometimes. I'm really working on simplifying our lives, in my head anyway. I take a baby step each day.
I think most of us women put ourselves last a lot of the time. :/

Amen sister!!! I have found a trick for taking my supplements. I hate taking a ton of stuff in the morning. It's a gag thing. So I make a pile on the counter and as I go about my chores I stop and take a pill. Then next time I walk by I stop and take another. It's working great and I feel so much better.

Great job finding the hay. So how much feed do you keep on hand fpr the other critters?

Enjoy your down time this weekend.

I gag in the morning too. I try to bring them to work and take them throughout the morning. The trick is remembering to bring them.
We usually have 50lbs of layer pellets for the birds. That lasts about a week and a half. The ducks don't eat much since they forage all day. The chickens are penned now because of the stupid hawk. We store that feed in the barn on the chickens' side in metal trash cans. The goat feed and alfalfa are in there too. With only 3 of them 50 lbs lasts a while. It's the hay that they eat a lot of. No pasture here. And of course it takes the most room. Now that I've taken a breath and thought for a minute or two I realize we do know people who probably be willing to store some for us in exchange for some cheese now and then. We've got options. DH may have to build a storage facility for it eventually. And we've got unused overhead space in the barn.
