Sigh, :p to FF. I know you deserve the time off..... but sigh, :p anyway!
We are here all day and go back on the 3rd. We have the 6th off for Three Kings Day though. How strange is that? Because of our high Hispanic population, the public schools have the day off but the Catholic School does not. Almost seems backwards!

BB, do you have a required number of days your school must be open? Here it is 180. We start just before Labor Day, have a week in December, February and April then get out in mid-June barring too many snow days. I can't imagine having that much snow!! We've had a whole week off for blizzards once in a while but it is very rare. The longest I can remember is the Ice Storm of 1973 (big enough they made a movie centered around it) We had no power for a long long time. There was a 1 inch plus coating of ice over everything and we skated on our backyard because it was so flat.

Thanks Gina! So far it isn't too horrible. My students are all cooperating. There are a handful of kids in the school not where they're supposed to be, wandering and being loud. Pretty much normal for here. :/

I think we are required 178 days. We started at the first of August then we were slated to end at the first of May. We missed 28 day last year.

Wow, yeah, that's a whole lot earlier than us. And a whole lotta snow days. We usually only have 3 or 4 unless we have one particularly bad storm. The year I got married we had 12! We went to school until June 28 that year. The wedding was on the 30th. A little too close for comfort!

We have gravel roads and side roads galore too. So an inch of snow shuts us down.

180 days here too Hen.

A few different years we had an extreme amount of snow and lots of snow days. Some of the days were "forgiven" and we did not have to make them up. I think it is a Governor decision or something.

They were talking about no summer school in our district this year as well, due to costs. I don't know were we stand on that one. In years past we had make up snow days right up until summer school started. Yucky for those that work summer school.

edit to actually add my message before hitting submit....
I don't think we'll ever lose summer school because our test scores are so horrible.

I am so glad the day is over. SOoooooo glad. I heard the following snippets in the hallways:
"I ain't takin' no &*%$ing test. It's the holidays for &*%#&'s sake."
To a very quiet, well behaved 9th grader "Yo, your sweater is ugly! Bahahahaha"
Directed at security "You can't tell me where to go. You not my mother. Hey, even my mother can't tell me where to go.'" I can't tell you how very much I wanted to tell her where to go.....
One of my Autistic students was having a bad day. Disruption in routine, his one-on-one aide has been out sick all week, the other kids are louder and more obnoxious than usual. Several times he ran out of the room and beat on lockers. One time there was a girl standing near the locker he was beating on and he hit her several times. He didn't comprehend she was a person in the moment. She was just part of the landscape. Luckily he didn't hurt her and she was very understanding about it. Security was notified and he had to apologize and sit in a quiet room for a bit. I had him for the last half hour of the day and he did fine.
