That's my phew we made it to vacation dance! It was a looooong afternoon with a physical confrontation between a student and administrator at the HS. No injuries but we were all in a "Do Not Release" situation, so not quite a lockdown but we couldn't leave the area we were in. I got stuck in cafeteria study hall looking for a student. I had to help keep the kids from leaving to wander like they usually do. Rumors flew the rest of the afternoon and the atmosphere was tense and loud. For two days the Spanish teacher across the hall has been showing the movie La Bamba. The volume has been turned way up. I mentioned it to her yesterday and she turned it down for a while but this afternoon when I was working with one of my autistic students her students turned it way up again. when my student heard the music he rushed out of my room into hers and started dancing wildly. Luckily her students were stunned into silence and didn't laugh. I corralled him and brought him back to my room. ANd still they wouldn't turn it down. After school she seemed to think I needed to aplogize further. She knows I see autistic students but didn't realize that this kiddo was one of them. She has zero control over that particular class.
The period before that I had to write up a student for the first time. He is disruptive in a group of 2. I'm sick of him not working for me and making it impossible for the other student to do his work. I've talked to him, his case manager has talked to him. I'm not allowed to call home but the cm is. None of it has made a difference. So today when he started taking things out of the closet in our room, poking the other student with them and then telling him he was gay for putting up with it I kicked him out. Actually I escorted him out. I knew that all the security people were busy with the police from the other incident so I could only walk him to his regular class and write him up after school. What a PITA! Not a fun way to end the day but it is making me appreciate having the week off all the more!
DS has been enduring some teasing at school from his classmates. I can't tell if he's truly being singled out or if he's being over sensitive but after a small incident yesterday with two of the other boys who have given him some trouble in the past, I emailed the teacher. She told me she was aware of some of the things going on and had to call home on one of them. The other parent was very upset with her son and hopefully that means things will improve. As it happens when I picked up DS there were two guys on the green across from the school flying radio controlled planes. We watched for a while with this other boy and they got along fine talking about it. SO it works out.
