I have come to the firm belief that some people are actually AFRAID of the dark and afraid of simple quiet. It is amazing how many people always have a radio blaring or TV on or some other noise constantly in their lives. A lot of these same people keep lights on in the house and outside constantly. Makes you wonder - are they are afraid to be alone with themselves?
Absolutely. I've interviewed many people about this and they think too much if things are quiet and they don't like what they think. They don't want to introspect.

Now for me, the dark and quiet are required. Several hours a day just to sit and be quiet. I like noise when I like noise. And I like to introspect when I need that too.

But it is definitely fear, most often, and disquiet, perhaps, for others. And sometimes I think it's that there is so much overstim and we've all trained ourselves into such an utter lack of attention span with tv and video games and whatnot, that it is literally uncomfortable. Personally, I think the constant overstim means you need that silent time MORE to reset your poor brain, but most people don't like to exercise anything :p

DS is suffering that right now. He feels he must have the TV or the computer or his DS or the Wii or something. Time for some non-electric time. I'm tempted to take him hiking the rain. If he doesn't start entertaining himself better this vacation is going to get ugly. I've got too much to do to constantly be entertaining him myself!!

yay!

I've decided to take the entire day off tomorrow. I was supposed to work 1/2 a day, but I just don't want to. So now I'm in count down to three days off of work!

Sweet! I don't think the weather is going to be very nice so you'll get a day for inside stuff then two nice days. Not so sure about the weekend yet...

Indy is home, neutered and microchipped, sleepy and confused. But home! :love

Housework all day. Blech!
Bored kid, double blech! I think we are going to put on rain gear and go check out a new trail near our house. The dog is staying nice and calm thank goodness. He did finally decide to eat this morning.
I'm going to have to find bigger quarters for the chicks soon. They are rapidly outgrowing their rubbermaid tub.
Tomorrow will be our day for Old Sturbridge Village. I put aside a little $$ for the bookstore, which is my favorite place there other than the Freeman Farm.
Back to cleaning until DH is home from an errand. I'm going through knitting magazines and books. I do NOT have a problem...... :hide

Spent the morning and early afternoon at OSV. Very windy but the sun was shining most of the time. There was a day old lamb to oo and ah over. Very cute. I'm looking forward to going back when the gardeners are out in the fields and it's not so crowded. Outside the farmhouse there was a wooden bucket of tannish sludge with a big wooden paddle sticking out. This woman with a couple of kids came over and looked at it. "Oh look kids, they're making butter!" I couldn't help myself and interrupted, "Um, I don't think that's butter." She rolled her eyes at me. She actually rolled them! "Of course it is, it's a butter churn. It just isn't finished jelling..." I refrained from rolling my eyes back at her. "Kids, stir it up some more." The farmer came walking over. Show off mom says "So what do you add to it to make it yellow?" Farmer looked at me. I cracked a smile. He did too. "Why would we want yellow soap?" Heehee!
