Ah, the baseball season that never ended.....
I just got a call from DS's coach. He has been selected for the "All Star Team" (for the 7-8 year old league). We have our last regular season game Saturday. Now he'll have two more practices during the last week of school and the Big Game on the 18th. At 9 in the morning. I don't do 9am Saturday if I can help it. Well, I suppose this is a big deal and I'll have to drag my butt and the good camera to the field. :ya I really am proud of the little guy. He's tried to back out of playing several times this season saying he only signed up to make his grandmother happy. But he's really trying his best and being a good sport. It's nice to see he's being rewarded for it! All the same, he says he doesn't want to play next year in the 9-10 league and that's just fine with me. They're reallly intense. With nasty parents who swear at umps and fights at travel games. Not nice. Don't want any part of that.

Ugh, what a stupid day. I'll spare the gorey details. Basically after saying she wouldn't, our superintendent called an early release because of the heat. However her email said only students would go home early. Staff had to stay. Union reps started whining and the short version is that she changed her mind and was not happy about it. It was very vaguely worded though and just said that staff could go home early. Not had to. So I stayed and got a lot of paperwork done. Now I've got a coworker saying I probably won't be paid since I elected to stay. We will see. I will fight that since I not only wouldn't get paid, I will have to pay for the child care for DS.
We are having a storm right now with high winds, not tornado winds but it's really whipping out there. DH is at Home Depot and I hope he will be home soon. Dinner's going to be interesting if we lose power which we just did briefly. At least it's cooling off.
7 days to go. One more regular Friday. Next Friday I will most likely just stay at the elementary school all day. Not sure at this point. Whereever I am I will have DS tagging along since it's his last day and a half day with no child care.

Thanks! Yeah, I was ready for summer vacation they week we got back from April break!!
7, did I say that already? 7 days to go!
I emailed the super to see if I'll get paid.
Gleno, if you happen to read this and get the chance, ask your friend who teaches at Natchaug if it really got to 100 degrees on their third floor yesterday! That's what's going around the rumor mill. I know the principal at my mom's school was running around with a thermometer checking various rooms.

It's pretty much heaven on earth in my backyard right now. The thunderstorms have passed, leaving cool temperatures and less humid air. It is raining lightly but steadily and I can smell the soil in my new little vegetable garden. The ducks are trolling for bugs. The goats and chickens have put themselves to bed. The birds are singing. If the deck cushions hadn't all gotten wet in the storm I'd be sitting out there. :D I need a "content Hen" smiley! guess that will have to do. I'm not even upset that we don't have any cold GF beers.....

This is a picture of one of the rabbit breeder's "black silver marten" German angoras. I know nothing about angora rabbits but I think she is beautiful! I don't know if this one is related to mine or not.

Ah, lovely, her answer is no. We should have been told by our building administrator to leave. I was there all day and never heard an announcement to that effect. So I'm out 1.5 hours pay and have to pay child care for DS. wonderful. I've emailed my principal to make sure I didn't miss it. I don't want to make waves but I am not happy! It was not made clear that we were suppose to leave and didn't have a choice. Many teachers chose to stay but they're not paid hourly like me. I got a lot done so maybe I can sneak out early another day. :barnie This what I get for a) interpreting things literally and b) not wanting to follow along with a lot of cranking teachers who just wanted to make waves. :he

So the principal says that he checked with several of his assistants who all said they believe a second announcement was made telling us to go home. Hmmmmm. I didn't leave the building and never heard it. I asked a few other people who all heard it by word of mouth or went by the vague email we got. At least 2 say that NO announcement was made! So I'm not wrong. I also found out that several people stayed because they thought that is what the super really wanted us to do. They are unhappy too. Downstairs one of the SPecial Ed teachers went around letting all the paras know to go home because they don't have email. no one ever came upstairs. I left it with the principal that I somehow missed this announcement so too bad for me. In reality I'm leaving 1.5 hours early next Friday on DS's last day. He gets out at noon. I'm picking him up and bringing him back to the HS with me. I will work until 1 and then we're leaving.
It was about 10 degrees cooler outside today. In my room at school it was 2 degrees cooler than yesterday. I was more uncomfortable today, probably because I was ticked off.
6 more days. 3 of them are half days at the HS. DS has 5 days left. Monday is Field Day and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are all half days. He says they've been watching movies for at least part of each day. Sounds like they're already in summer mode there. I know that Thursday they are supposed to wear grubby clothes for cleaning their classroom and Wednesday and Friday they are to wear nice play clothes. Monday they dress for Field Day so I only need to have a clean uniform for him for one more day!!!
