Years ago when my kids went to Christian school there was a controversy about whether the boys should be allowed to wear a "bowl cut" hair style. Several of the boys had their hair cut and my kid was one of them. I figured it was still short enough to meet the (very conservative) dress code. Evidently the elderly pastor disagreed with us and we ended up with a note about "faddish" hairstyles. The day after the note arrived and BEFORE any one had re-cut their kids hair one of the parents (a VERY respected member of the church and VERY involved in things) came in to pick up his child sporting a tall, very moussed mohawk! :ep

We received another note the next day saying that "after consideration" the bowl cuts would be ok as long as the hair still fit the rest of dress code rules. :gig

The added funny part is that he also works with my hubby. The man wore a hat the entire time he was at work for about two weeks, then he changed his "do" to a buzz cut.

I know that Manic Panic sells Atomic Turquoise and Vampire Red semi permanent hair dyes (there's also midnight blue, violet, and maybe something else). I used to bleach two streaks of hair by my ears (which, with my hair, got them stripped out to an orangy gold color near the roots and blond toward the tips) and the addition of the dye made for a color transition from parrot green to turquoise. It was really cool. :D My culinary teacher thought it was cool that I HADN'T bleached all my hair and dyed it blue, just those two streaks. Then, later on, I bleached the ends of all my hair and dyed those blue for a while. Then I had the lot cut off real short and layered. :p (I had waist length hair for many years.)

Later on, I gave myself Vampire Red "highlights". That was okay, but the dye didn't stay in my hair very long, so I never bothered to repeat the process. The blue was much better.

My brother dyed his hair blue one time but used the powdered dye and got it all over my mother's bathroom. Everytime she wiped any surface in the bathroom for the next week it turned blue :p

I went from blonde to black and I thought my mother was gonna toss her cookies  She actually cried....I believe her exact words were "my beautiful blonde little baby girl" I was 19 for god's sake. Now my hair is naturally turning to a very dark brown but I get some blonde in the summer. I am so over my hair I want to shave my head sometimes....I can't have bangs cause of my horrible cow licks so I'm stuck with the front long. I think people make too big a deal out of people's style...who cares, do what you want.

:gig I didn't even think of the benefit of picking DS up at his Catholic school!!!
I was painting my toenails last night and he wandered over. He loved the metalic blue I was using. And asked me to do his toenails too. So I did. We are just rebels around here lately! Pinned back hair and blue toenails!
Now he is wanting to do some craft projects together since his dad went in to school to get his classroom ready for next week.
It is in the 60s, breezy, my animals are happily wandering the backyard. I'm on the deck with my netbook loving it! I can feel autumn in the air. ANother cup of coffee and I'll be ready to get dressed and get something done. Maybe.
