When you said "grass fed burgers", I kinda imagined a herd of burgers on seseame seed buns, grazing in the paddock. :hide

:gig I knew it sounded funny when I typed it but I'm so relaxed and mellow I didn't have what it took to fix it!

Another perfect weather day here in CT. I'm loving the dry air. I even (sssssssshh, don't tell crazy lady from church) blew dry my hair! I'm getting it cut next week and just want to play around to see what I want to do. The curly look isn't working for me. It did for the humid months but I found I was putting it up anyway. And the grays need to be dealt with. I tried letting them go and if it would just go gray already I'd be thrilled. But it's taking its time and making me look old. SO they're going.
I just found out we have a new local Weston A. Price chapter that meets out of our food co-op so I contacted them. They've added my email to their mailing list. They've only met once so far but now I will know when they meet again. Both of the founders work at the co-op and I even know who one of them is by sight so I will introduce myself next time I'm in there. Which will be tomorrow because my mom was just there and looked for raw milk for me but they're not getting more until tomorrow. Apparently it's been selling out faster than ever all of a sudden. I guess that's good overall, but until I have a goat in milk it's a pain! Luckily DS's school is next door so I can get there almost every day after I pick him up.
I have some goat's milk yogurt straining for whey so I can do fermented salsa. I've suddenly got roma tomatoes ripening! Yay!! Some heirlooms too which will give nice flavor. Brandywines, Purple Cherokee and some purple Russian variety.
Off to the riding ring for a practice ride for DS. He's riding in his first fair Saturday. I'll be bringing him while DH and my mom hold down the fort here at our tag sale! Looking forward to getting rid of some stuff!

Salsa is made, steaks were grilled and eaten. We had more fresh tomatoes and cukes with basil and olive oil.
Orthodontis appointment went okay. We waited 45 minutes to be seen and told that he needs to come back in another 9 months. So no braces yet so no $$ yet but 45 minutes of our lives we'll never get back. DS had fun playing the free Ms. PacMan game and I read a trashy magazine or two.
DS is bored out of his mind. He has gotten so bad at keeping himself entertained! DH and I have been trying to get ready for the tag sale and DS has grown bored with helping out. So he is driving us NUTS.

Oh cool! I just got a Facebook friend request from a student who graduated last spring. He's quite autistic and hard to get to know but last semester every once in a while I'd realize he was actually conversing with me and not just talking at me. Like he asked me to go to his graduation. That was a huge communication step for him and a personal triumph for me! He "let me in" just a little bit. I'm glad we're not going to lose touch completely. :D

Went to pick up raw milk at the co-op and found the two women who have started our local Weston A Price chapter. We talked forever and they are excited to get another meeting going. They both failed with kefir and were thrilled to hear I've been successful with my grains from Free and have some to share. They haven't tried kombucha yet and their eyes lit up when I said I'd have scobies to share.
Off to get some cucumbers fermenting. My dill didn't survive so I had to buy some. :/

Salsa looks and smells great. It's in the fridge. I decided to wait until it's chilled to try it. I'm doing cucumber pickles this morning. Then we'll spend our day getting ready for our tag sale and getting ready for Hurricane Irene Sunday night. We haven't had a hurricane direct hit in a long time. Not looking forward to it at all. I've never had livestock during a storm like this before. DH is worried I'll be moving 19 chickens, 9 ducks and 3 goats into the house if it gets real bad....

You're moving your ducks and chickens?? I think my chickens will be ok in the coop and the ducks can find a good hiding spot in the woods or yard. I'll be moving two bunnies and two dogs into the garage. Might put the bunnies together. :love  We've got the water tank filled and plenty of food. I will be clearing the ice machine out and putting it in a bag in the freezer. I'm kinda worried about this one but I'm glad we don't live close to the oceanfront anymore. Make sure you check in often so we know you're ok!

Nah, I won't really move them into the house, he's just afraid I'll try! We'll lock everyone up before it hits. I am worried about the trees but there's nothing I can do about it now. We have a lot of large trees that could hit the barn, the house, the cars. It's really our biggest threat up here on our hill. We'll put away everything that could fly around the yard. But we can't do anything about the trees except hope for the best. We're an hour inland from Long Island Sound. Could be a lot worse! We really just need to be ready for power outages more than anything. I don't like that we live on a dead end street with only one way to get out. DH is tuning up his chain saw so it will be ready. He is supposed to go back to work for staff meetings on Monday. What a way to start a school year!
