Yech Hen. I randomly get sick for no reason but it passes fast and I'm fine again. Sometimes my stomach just didn't realize I was about to eat, and wasn't prepared.

It could have been anything I suppose. The combination, something too rich? Who knows. Once it was out I was fine. Still am! Passed on the fair food though. :sick That could have been ugly!
The fair was very quiet of course with the coming storm. They were only charging half price admission. DS rode the pony in Beginner Walk/Trot equitation and took second to his instructor's daughter. The pony was being a little stubborn and DS handled it beautifully. Then the DD decided she didn't want to ride in the next event (Beg. W/T Pleasure)so DS got to ride the Halflinger and he took first. There was only one other boy in the events with them. He was riding Western on a very uncooperative large paint horse. He seemed really inexperienced. I was really impressed with how the judge was with all the participants. She was kind and encouraging and just made it a great experience for everyone, but not like the one show DS went to where everything was set up so each kid got at least one blue ribbon in the beginner classes. These kids got the ribbons they earned. The judge took the time to make comments to each rider as she awarded ribbons, saying something positive to everyone and maybe offering a pointer or two. She called me over after his first ride to point out a small error in his left stirrup. I hadn't tacked the horse (if I had the saddle could end up upside down-I know nothing about tacking horses) so I thanked her and made sure to show the instructor's assistant who had done it. The judge also made a point to let me know that the stirrup did not affect his score at all. Then she smiled and said how nice it was to see the boys out numbering the girls for a change! When he took first in the pleasure class she told him he really looked like he was having fun riding and she hoped he kept riding his whole life. He left the ring beaming.

He really does look like he belongs on a horse :)

That's a great judge. Sounds like she loves horses and riding!!! What a wonderful way to encourage the kids to keep working.

We lost a Kansas City horse icon this year, Bev Cathcard.

She was a wonderful judge and horse woman. She used to volunteer her time to come and work with our 4-H kids and would sometimes judge our 4-H shows usually only charging a small fee. The last show that she judged, when I was around, she was 80 + years old and she ran me into the ground. We always loved having her judge because she always had a nice thing to say to each child and some little bit of instruction or bit of encouragement. She was just wonderful. She will sure be missed.

What a great job! And he does indeed look like he is naturally comfortable with horses.

Thanks! He adores that dun pony, but Marvin can be stubborn and not do what he is supposed to all the time. The halflinger is a doll and great show horse. DS has done very well the two times he's ridden Shine in shows.
