We went out to feed our friends' cats. The roads aren't bad. We were relieved to see that someone had indeed plowed their driveway and shoveled a path to the door. The kitties are fed, watered and have a clean box. All is well in their world and ours. :D

Merry Christmas to all my SS buddies!
We had a splendid day both yesterday and today. Yesterday morning we officially created a new family tradition. DH and did this last year and this year we brought DS. We drove into Hartford's Little Italy in the morning to the best Italian bakery probably in the state. We had to take a number. They were serving #107 when we walked in. We pulled #184. We were there for a while, making the best of it, chatting with people around us about family traditions. DH got to trade Italian grandma stories. We went last year to get the Torrone candies that my in-laws always have but waited too late to get last year. We got some of those and some of the almond cookies that are so good I sometimes dream about them. I was "bad" and added a dozen mini canollis to the order before I was done. We finished some other errands on the way home.
Dinner last night was at our house. Ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans salad, cookies and eggnog. We went off to church at 9:30 for carols and readings followed by the service. DS was stunned to see his teacher walk in! She came with her ex-husband, two of her sons and her former in-laws who were members of the church before they retired south.
This morning we got up and opened some things before we had French toast made with Panetonne we got at the bakery. Then we headed to the local soup kitchen to help serve brunch. DS was an angel and very helpful and really seemed to get a good feeling out of being there.
Dinner today was at my parents with my brother and his gf. We had a great time, ate too much and laughed a lot.
It was a very merry Christmas! I hope you all had one as well!

Happy 2010 everyone!
We entered in the new year here at home last night, ate homemade lasagna (noodles from scratch, etc.), watch a favorite movie, played Wii games with the 7 year old who managed to stay awake for the first time. Our friends who usually have to the local party had other plans this year and we didn't get any other invites. I felt a little bad about that but truth is I'm not much of a big noisy party person. A nice quiet dinner party would have been fine with me though. Anyway, shortly after midnight I went outside with the puppy one last time. The moon was out and brighter than I expected since it was cloudy. We had some snow earlier in the day so we got that "luster of midday" thing going on with the moon shining on it. The sky had almost a pinkish color to it. The wood of the deck was creaking it was so cold and the snow was squeaky under my feet. I stood there watching the puppy sniff around. I could hear my ducks quacking softly down in the coop. The puppy and I heard the owl at the same time. Not a barred owl like we usually hear. Maybe a great horned? It wasn't too far away, maybe a few yards out into the woods behind us. It was a very contented hooting, not a mating call, almost like he was wishing us a happy new year. I've always loved owls (never had one attack my birds though). A few light snowflakes were falling. I could have stood there for hours just listening. Such peace in my own little world. It was a marvelous way to start my year.
Slept in this morning then made "Eggs ala Haiffa", basically Eggs Benedict but with smoked salmon instead of Canadian bacon.
I'll spend some time with my seed catalogs later, a New Year's tradition of mine.
Tomorrow we have the Vicar's Tea. I may get an emergency call for eggs from the Vicar's wife. I hope the girls have a laid a few this morning, I used quite a few for breakfast! I'm hosting coffee hour at church on Sunday so I'll do some baking. Dh is cleaning his office area. Time for me to scoot on out of here before he throws me out with all his junk.....

Sounds like a lovely night and a wonderful breakfast......I am not so ambitious. I have a headache and am trying to get some coffee in me, then perhaps I will make pancakes for the kids.

2010...wow, I feel old!
