Just offering some sympathy about the school & food issues. Maybe you could get the superintendent involved? State board of education? They are endangering the health of your child after all.

DD is highly allergic to strawberries. She's been educated about that since she could articulate the word strawberries, so she knows to ask if it's a red color sauce or fruit drink of any kind.

The lunchlady tried to force her to eat a strawberry pop-tart. Now, why they were giving a pop-tart for breakfast is beyond me, but she actually sent DD to the principal's office for refusing to eat her breakfast. The principal called me to come & pick her up for behavior issues!
Keep in mind, both of these people have a list of the children with allergies & what they are allergic to posted on the wall in their office. :rant

Yet another reason we are homeschooling now...

Congrats on the weight loss!

Wow, i see your frustrations. Keep on them though. You will make a difference not only for your son but for other kids as well.

Congrats on the weight loss. So just so I am on track. You are now eating gluten and dairy free?

Keep up the great work!!

Paper trail! Don't be shy, fill out an incident report...at the very least, journal the two incidents and date it and mail a copy via registered mail to the school. That will make them stand up and take noticed. Nothing like having to sign for an envelope to get the principal's attention. And they will know that the next incident = lawsuit material. They won't be able to say it was the first time or that they didn't know. :somad

DS is eating dairy and gluten free and then I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. I'm also doing low carb because I was diagnosed with prediabetes.
Thanks for your support everyone. Things have settled down at the school. The nurse has sent a school wide email (she's new to the school and I LOVE her!) discussing food allergies and the importance of knowing who in your class can eat what and keeping an eye open to make sure that no one is eating something they shouldn't. It included a warning about the dangers of food allergies. But as much as I love her I will be pulling him out and sending him to the Catholic school next year. Much smaller class. Much easier for the teacher to watch.
We keep the dialogue open here. DS can tell me why he shouldn't have eaten the frosting that day (and the time before  ). I am sending in gf/df rice krispie treat sushi and fruit for his birthday in a few weeks.

Last night I went out to empty my compost bucket and heard the spring peepers for the first time this year!!
I planted two pots of Tom Thumb peas for my deck table. I still want to do a big container on the deck of Sugar Snaps. I've been eating them like crazy with hummus. They're my "potato chips and dip"!
I peeked under the straw to find my garlic sprouting up so I uncovered it all. All twenty cloves have sprouted! My first garlic!!
We're off to Old Sturbridge Village where DS will take some classes offered to Cub Scouts today. Just waiting for my mom to show up. Oops, she's here. We're off!

I hope you have a wonderful fun day......you are doing awesome with your diet :clap I am so proud of you :thumbsup

School junk will eventually get easier....either when yu switch schools, or just as your DS ages a little.

One thing that makes it easier, is when you are "good" all the time and then fall off the wagon....you get REALLY sick and there is no doubt what caused you to feel so awful. The junk loses its appeal to a large degree. Especially when you have black bean cake to fall back on! (Made with lard or tallow, not butter, for the milk-free crowd.)

We have peepers, too, but my garlic is not showing yet. My hellebore is blooming and the rabbit left me one purple crocus. Lots of grass and bugs and grasshoppers for the chickens, so my eggs are extra lovely now. Spring! Woohoo!

I've never been to Sturbridge Village....gotta go. DH and I went to Plymouth Plantation as a part of our honeymoon and we both loved it.

This is so TRUE. People ask me how I can possibly not cheat and eat a cookie or a slice of bread every now and then. When you take a bite of a forbidden food and then find yourself with (basically) food poisoning symptoms for the next 24 to 48 hours - it gets REAL easy to say no. ;)

I have not felt any temptation to cheat and eat anything with gluten. I had to ask DH to not eat the chips he bought the other day in front of me. That was a bit of a temptation....
My GF friend made a ricotta cake today with a GF crust. She brought me over a piece to try. I didn't eat the crust anyway. But man, was the cake awesome!! I know what I'm making for Easter desert for myself! I'll still have to have something else for DS. I did find an online source for vegan chocolates and splurged on some foil wrapped eggs for him for Easter.
OSV was great right up until my mother took a fall on sandy pavement. She was walking down a paved path, with a slight downward slope. She turned to look for my son and somehow caught the egde of her sneaker on a small pot hole. She went down on her elbow, the her wrist. After security had interviewed her, patched her up and given her several ice packs we headed home. My dad drove her to the ER were x-rays comfirmed her wrist was broken which I was pretty sure of anyway. She's in a soft cast until she sees an orthopedist Monday. They told her it's not a bad break. The bones are lined up nicely so it should heal pretty easily. I've got to figure out the remedies I used when I broke my arm in '98. I took homeopathic stuff and got extra calcium. I was out of my cast 2 weeks before my doctor thought I would be. Of course I was half her age at the time.
I just read this morning that carpal tunnel syndrome can be a sign of insulin resistance. Hmmmmm, guess what she's had surgery for?? She's assuming all my issues come from my dad's side of the family since his mother was the one with Type 2 Diabetes.
She's in good spirits. Didn't want to fill her Rx for pain. I made her, saying she may feel okay now, but if she wakes up with it throbbing at 2 am she'd regret not filling it so she did.
I'm going to bed. I'm suddenly very tired!!
Free, if you do ever plan to go to OSV we could meet up! They have baby lambs right now.... and calves. And they're starting the garden... and oh my the SS books in the bookstore!!! I didn't get to shop today but I get in so much trouble in there!!!

That would be wonderful! I checked out the website, and it looks like it is well worth it for a family membership, since there are the four of us here now.
