I'm with bbh, plus, if you want to sell some for profit, the same people who pay a premium for those rustic home furnishing will pay a premium for your soap :D

Aww, thanks guys! This batch will be mainly given away, or used by me, but you never know! It's nice to have a hobby that has the potential for money. Like sewing, or baking or fishing. Kind of the opposite of hobbies like golf. (Sorry to anyone who likes golf. I do not hate it, but have an intense loathing of that "sport." Everything, from the tiny carts to the horrid chemically fertilized grass bothers me.) At least what I do in my spare time is useful, right?

So I really want to make that Oat Bread recipe that's on this site, but never EVER remember to buy the whole wheat. So I finally realized that it is in the bulk section. DUH! So I got 3/4 of a pound for $.53, instead of buying a bag for $3.50+, when I don't even know how often I'll use it. Tomorrow I make bread! I have slow cooker lasagna simmering away, and need to go do laundry. Hey, I wonder if I could make my own laundry soap from scratch? Now I'm using the good ol' washing soda+borax+fels naptha. But what if I could make the actual soap??

I made the Oatmeal Bread today! From the recipe Keljonma posted! I halved it, and used regular yeast, not instant. It's soooo good.

It's pretty funny, I'm watching an episode of I Love Lucy where Ricky tells Lucy that "modern women have it so easy. All you do is flip a switch!" when she asks for a dishwasher. So they make a bet to each live as they did before the year 1900. They're like "will you pick me up some butter, and bread and the store?" And freak out when they learn they have to make their own bread. I suppose they're in a different pay range then most people in the 50s. I mean, didn't anyone make their own bread then? Anyway, hi jinks with a misread amount of yeast, and you use your imagination.

I'm seeing if I can post a video here. It's from photobucket, not you tube. Just a short clip of Charlie when he was a kitten.

Hm. Second.

Nevermind, I was trying to make it so you could just watch it within this page, instead of going off to photobucket. But I don't think it'll let me so oh well.

What is the deal with raw milk? I was doing a search to see if I could find a source in my parent's area (not likely to advertise I understand now) and came across this anti-raw milk article.

"We certainly have seen an increase in raw milk consumption over the last four to five years," Beers says. "My counterparts in other states are all dealing with this issue of people wanting raw milk, too. It seems like the interest in this area continues to grow."

So do the reports of illness linked to raw milk. Earlier this year, Pennsylvania officials halted sales of raw milk from Stump Acres Dairy of New Salem, Pa., after two outbreaks of salmonella were tied to its products. In July, the state health department asked the dairy to stop giving away raw milk to consumers following a third salmonella case involving its customers.

Elsewhere across the country, outbreaks of E. coli, campylobacter jejuni, listeria and other serious illnesses have been attributed to raw milk and its products. From 1998 to 2005, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tied 45 outbreaks of food-borne disease to raw milk or to cheese made with unpasteurized milk. More than 1,000 people became ill, 104 were hospitalized and two died, according to the CDC.

Drinking raw milk "is like playing Russian roulette," says Gregory Miller, vice president of the National Dairy Council. "Why would you take that risk?"
Doesn't milk end up with those bacterias because of poor conditions? Meaning that the animals were kept in dirty conditions? Is this all some conspiracy to draw the public away from natural foods? Like the whole genetically modified thing... I just don't get it. All you people with cows and goats, do you get sick? Don't you keep your animals in clean pastures and get them tested and such? Why do I ever listen to the CDC? Milk should be nature's perfect drink, why is drinking it raw "like playing Russian roulette?" Why would I trust raw less than store bought?

(I realize the answer is money. But I feel better now.)

I'm sorry!!! Its a take on the industrial chicken houses. There is a TV show that I've been informed about called Robot Chicken and that guy is the scientist who robotized the poor chicken. Thats what I think the industry houses are doing. Maybe I should change it though, if its scaring people... :idunno

Oooo I'm jealous :D I can't make a decent loaf bread :hit
