Thanks! I hope it turns out. It scares me that it has to cure for four weeks before I'll know for sure. And it's not as scary as I assumed it would be. You can see my instructions in the front of my kitchen picture-with bits highlighted. I had this fear that it would go from trace to solid soap too fast. Well, it didn't!
Amos- Thanks for reminding me about the lemons. They are destined for lemonade! And I save the peels for homemade cleaners. I freeze them until I need them.
Here's the table I was talking about. I have two leaves which can be put in. I said I thought it went through Seattle's Great Fire, and I may be mistaken. It's either this table, or the desk I'm using as a sewing table. Can't remember which. Maybe both. Either way, the dining room table for sure was my grandparents. My memory is totally failing me.
Here's the desk. (sewing table!)
Also, the sewing machine was my grandma's (on my dad's side) and it's about 45 years old. I don't think I have anything new in my whole house. But hey, when I have someone over and there's an uncomfortable silence, I can always say "did you know, these couches were my great-aunt's?"
Oh, and I may look like a neat and tidy person, but this is FORCED and not real in the slightest!
I heard from a friend when they were selling the house that a bowl of lemons on the table is a sure way to sell your house, apparently their realitor told them that? Anyway, off the counter, move them to the table for a while.
Beautiful table! We recently got an old oak table, love old tables, lot of character.
Funny I had to think for a minute. I guess the only actually NEW things that have ever been in this house are things like toasters and my computer and of course my mattress'. Nothing in the way of hand me downs from grandparents and stuff. Mostly shopping at out of the way second hand shops/antique shops for bargains.
Love your table. It is beautiful. I do have my grandmothers trundel Singer. I keep it in working order and love to look at the old cabinet and how the old machine works by my foot power.
I personally think the old things are the best. They just last longer. especially when loved and cared for.
Great pics thanks for sharing. i hope your soap turned out well. I have a desk similar to yours. It's a great big solid oak old school teachers desk. It's in my garage for now. I think the best thing that caught my eye is your dress makers form.. I really want one. Is yours from your grandma's well?
TanksHill- Omg, you caught me! The dressform is in fact, NEW. I got a really good deal, though. And it's sooo nice to have. Especially when my friends come over and are like "can you make this costume, it's for tonight *shows outlandish picture of elf creature*" I love it. And muslin.
I must admit, when I do something and like it, I get addicted. So I spent all of this morning looking at soap recipes. Pricing oils, essential oils, fragrances, and molds. Wondering if I could mix my own fragrances. This, by the way, is why I have always known I couldn't do drugs. Because I get addicted to EVERYTHING. I know for a fact, (and based on family history) that I would never be able to quit. Anyway, Now I have to wait four weeks to see if it turns out?? Fat chance! When my mom comes up I'm going to let her choose a scent, and have her help make another batch.
I am the exact same way. Thats also why I never did any drugs. LOL Addicted to everything I start.
Once you get something down to you have to move on the something else. That is my weakness I guess. Wanted to make jewelry. Got all the stuff spent 2 years researching, and practicing. Once I felt like I had it down pat I was done with it.
Wanted to learn how to use the chainsaw. DH worked with me and watched me until he felt it was safe for me to work on my own. Once I cut my first tree by myself. Done. Now I won't touch the thing. I use to sew all my kids clothes. (30 years ago). Packed up the machine and never touched it again. Now I am wanting to bring it back out.
And that is why I never throw out any hobby stuff and also why when I mention making soap - DH says stuff like - OH NO - here we go again. LOL
But isn't it fun to learn
I don't totally stop a hobby, but my brain doesn't do well with lots of things at once. If I'm sewing, that's it for the time. Then can move to something else, but if I would try to work on say, a quilt, and also make a batch of soap, chances are, I would accomplish NEITHER. So I suppose one thing at a time is my way. This is why my house is usually a disaster. I finish a project and move on, maybe not cleaning up from that project. I'm working on it.
It's been 24 hours since I poured my soap into the mold! So on to pictures.
I forgot to get wire to cut it with, so the bars are less than perfect. But for a first try, I'm okay with that! Is it normal at this point for the top to be a different color?
