well were safe here in Fairfield county CT and looking at the radar its pretty much almost done with us...
irene definatly lost her steam turned into a tropical storm and seems to pick up speed.

they were saying the storm would be directly over ct around 11am, but according to the radar there seems to be no back to it now, and its moving out already...
well be gusty all day i think, and the tornado watches are in effect for a little while longer...

but as of right now...*fingers crossed* so far so good.
its 10:30 am...ill check back in about lunchtime as long as we have power...
the rain seems to have died down, but its very gusty, so theres still the downed tree risk in terms of power loss.

We've had the generator running since just after 8:30 last night. Found out the power strip in my bedroom is not surge protected-alarm clock isn't keeping correct time. Now, I'm wondering if the one for the incubator is.

Hubby should learn to listen to me. Our genny doesn't do good w/the pump. I wanted to fill more containers w/water than we did. He wishes now he had listened to me.

If I hadn't had to work an extra hour on Friday, I would have had everything done I wanted to get done. As it is, I'm wanting a nice, hot shower. I just may have to heat up water and use my battery operated shower.

Wannabefree, I just wanted to thank you for posting all the updates on the course of the storm last night. I found myself coming here for information instead of the TV. Thanks!

Glad everyone is checking in and doing well so far. Keeping an eye out for Hen to check in. :)

I have a friend in NJ who works in NY for the fire department. They had him come in, but offered food and a place to sleep. His building is really safe, so it was better than staying at his house. He's at a friends house in NY for food other than MREs lol!!!

We still have power and no wind to speak of. The neighbors are baling water from their basement and just borrowed a spare pump from another neighbor. We have a spare, too, but they'd already borrowed one before we found out they had a problem. They hauled 76 pails out before getting the pump! As a massage therapist, that makes me ache just thinking about it!

I got some tallow rendering...wanted to get it ground up while we still had power. Looks like we will probably get off pretty easy. The worst is supposed to hit in a couple of hours, and be past us by 5 or so. It is 12:45 here now.

Down graded to tropical storm. Still nothing to sneeze at but this has been a great test run for a serious situation. So far this has been a great time. Been able to play with all my cool toys that I have had no time for due to work. The family so far has been great through this prep time. We have actually done a test run to get to the basement incase of a tornado. The cats hated it but hey we love'em. :) This has been our first big scale prep time and I think we will do a few a year for practice. Cool thing is anything you had to buy above and beyond what we have we will use in our normal life anyway. :) Hope everyone else is doing fine. The wind is picking up and the chili is done. :pop

:th Fox News just showed a nut in Jersey swimming down the street!
How'd they find me that fast?
 I seriously doubt you are a big chunky out of breath balding white guy :p

The dry air coming from the south helped to make this storm weaker faster. I am SO glad you guys faired well. Power outages and tress down aren't too bad for how it was looking earlier yesterday.

Clean up is going to take a while, and the flooded areas will take a few days for the water to recede, but all in all you guys were SOOOOOOOOOOO blessed!

Kale. You're welcome. I was nervous for everyone and watching anyway, so figured I could post the highlights in case some lost power and for those who don't have TV :hu

THEFAN sounds like it worked out pretty good at your place :) I hope Hen and Lori checks in soon :/ I'm sure they're okay...maybe just lost power :hu

Just crossed the MA line, apparently, so we should be getting some wind soon. We are ready! :p
Shoudn't be too bad thankfully :) TS downgrade is very helpful. That means you'll have less than 75 mph sustained winds. There is NO backside to this storm anymore due to the dry air pushing it. It may dissipate even more as the day moves on. :D

So relieved Irene started losing steam sooner than expected.
Don't do like Floridians and get complacent though - just because the weather reports were off this time doesn't mean the danger won't be there next time (or that they'll be wrong and the storm is actually worse. There have been a lot of storms swerving up into the NE, fortunately most have continued back into the Atlantic.

Glad to hear from folks who have been able to check -in..... hope the others get here soon!
