I certainly do not think so but, I was chatting with a lady who has some rather unusual nutritional beliefs.

She told me that water is a solvent.....it causes rust, erodes mountains and wears down stone....and it does the same damage to our bodies. She claims that when she was big into juicing, she did not have even a sip of water for three years.

She says that water should never be taken on an empty stomach and that if she drinks plain water alone she will be sick for a week :hu

She has Crohns and sees an alternative health person who is a bit out there.

Any who....thoughts on water? Is mineral water really better for you that plain old filtered water?

Interesting.....I would say tap water isnt very good but bottled is probably better because its been filtered and purified more than tap.

Darn, you are so right. I'll switch to wine right away!

If she has Crohn's the issues she is having are reasonable and understandable.
But MOST humans have been drinking water for... Um. I don't know how long.
Water erodes stone over many many years.. Often longer than a human body is ever going to be around.

Many people in America today do not drink any 'plain' or pure water.. Pop, milk, soda, fruit juices, veggie juices yes.. Even plain fruits and veggies and meats. They all have forms of liquid that our body utilizes.. Or tries to.

I used to drink nothing but pop and juice for many many year, I'd say close to 5-6, no water at all. I also ruined my health and was extremely overweight growing up.

I think if water was an issue, humans would not exist as a species.

truly it might be her body rejecting that water on an empty tummy

she found what is right for her......but me! I say poop! hahaha

I drink tons of water and my body craves it. I love water. If I don't drink enough water I notice it in my body.

So me, I am opposite of her lol

I think everyone has to find that balance and for me, drinking alot of water is what works.

but if she does well on her eating plan than great for her.

:) Disclaimer so you know I'm not jabbing at you or anyone in particular. I'm not upset, just trying to be realistic. This is what I've been feeling the last couple of weeks because I have seen so much new, contradictory information.
I think this woman is off her rocker, but whatever - that's her choice. If it works for her, then yay.
If it was dangerous, I think we'd all be living much shorter lives. :) I think I have just about hit a wall with nutrition info in general. Something's gonna kill us eventually, may as well enjoy something while we're alive, right? (obviously that doesn't apply to serious intolerances/allergies) I'm just over it all I guess. So I'm gonna drink my water from my well when I'm thirsty and not be concerned about it. :D I don't think God wants me to be so boggled down in all this so I'm just trying to enjoy life and food in a sensible manner.

She is correct in saying that water is a solvent. There is no other liquid that will dissolve more substances than water.

As far as water breaking down a person's body, try doing without it and see how far you go.She may not have drank pure water but she was getting her water from the juices she was consuming.Juices, fruits, and vegetables are mostly water,as are other liquids a person may consume.

It is possible to drink too much water on an empty stomach and make yourself sick.

As far as mineral water vs. filtered water,I would rather have the former. The minerals are what give water its taste.I can see filtering out suspended particulates to make water clear. Some people want chemicals such as chlorine and flourine removed.Chlorine is added to kill bacteria that may get into the water system.Flourine is one of the best things known to help prevent tooth decay.

IMHO,bottled water and filtered water are one of the biggest scams to ever be put on the public.Look at the billions of plastic bottles floating around everywhere because of bottled water.A dollar or more for a pint bottle of water. Please!

Foreign countries have had bottled water for years because public water systems were not fit to drink from.It seems to me that in the USA it's cool and chic to be seen walking around swigging from a bottle of luke-warm spring water.

Er, what does she think the human body is composed about 60% of? Of COURSE water is a solvent; if it weren't, then no life on earth would even exist. You NEED a whole lotta water in your body to keep things in solution and permit the necessary chemical reactions to occur. Sheesh :p

Rust and erosion are results of chemical reactions. But at the same time, LIFE is a result of chemical reactions.

The only difference between juice and a glass of water is that juice has more stuff dissolved and suspended in the water.

So it is nuts to object to water, per se.

If her objection is more-specifically to drinking plain water without extra stuff dissolved in it too, then the rust and erosion issues are utterly irrelevant (metal rusts in juice too; and juice, being generally somewhat acidic, will erode stone even faster than plain water will, it's just that the weather forecast doesn't usually include "mostly cloudy with up to an inch of carrot juice expected today")

It is possible I suppose to compose a few very specific concerns about drinking pure water in that I suppose you could imagine it affecting the solute balance of your stomach and intestines. Although I have never seen anything to indicate to me that this is the case in actuality.

Really though I think she is either a wingnut or just has a tummy that does not enjoy the particular amounts and types of water that she used to drink.

Which is fine, but not something to rationalize a whole theory of "water = bad" on :p

JMHO,

Pat
