Wow, just checked in and I am so sorry for those boys. It's hard to get through something like that, I, like Quail, can speak from experience. With time they will heal and hopefully they will get the justice they deserve. That being said, the fuzzy butts are soooooo cute. Don't you just love 'em? :hugs

See, I think I have figured it out. The only reasons that brooders have come into existence is so people can have chickens in their homes.

You guys are such softies... :) Congrats on the new fuzzy butts. They sure are cute.

Congrats on the chicks!! Animals have a way in helping speed up the healing process I think, especially with kids.

Chicken bootcamp?? :hide :pop

I am angry for the boys' loss of innocence as well. Our band teacher was the culprit 35 years ago....but they were teenagers. He got a little weird with me but I told him to buzz off...made the mistake of not telling anyone...that's one thing that I teach my kids now...TELL SOMEONE if any adult makes them feel uncomfortable.

The chicks are real sweeties, but I love it when my hens hatch their own chicks. The hens are amazingly good at teaching the babies...(such excitement at the tidbits in the ground!) and I so enjoy the chicks circling around their Momma's legs like little Sputniks...perhaps your kids will get the chance to experience that as well.

That being said, my VERY FAVORITES are baby ducklings...and you have a GREAT POND...(hint, hint). :D Ducklings are hilarious and have incredible gusto for life...

Wishing you the best,

Leanne

Chicken bootcamp, what a hoot. I think my DD will adopt them in after their done laying, and I keep telling her " they have to go through bootcamp first in order to be guard chickens!! "

As a man of my word, I agreed too allow them one chicken as a pet each. I also will treat them all well during their lives while producing eggs to feed us, when their done laying, their going to be good eats. :pop

Because DS nor any of his troop members have been harmed, I have shifted my focus back to better my family. There is a lot of work to be done, and I will follow his legal case personally. Rumors are a dime a dozen, now it's being said that one of his victims is a drug addict, he refused to provide service and these aligations have come out. I will let the law decide if he is guilty or not.

I have been working very this week, in the shop, and in the garden.

I finished my raised bed and have planted 48 Ozark Strawberry plants. I also picked up my BCS tiller from albert friday. What a hoss it is, 10 HP worm gear driven, dual drum braking, rear tilling, monster of all tillers. It also has a plow attachment and can be used to hull a wagon.

Yes, I got my taters in...

Not shown, I also wrapped my baskets in clear plastic, due to freezing temps and wind.

Instead of one pound per seed potatoe, I will get 6-9 pounds per seed.

I use compost, straw and plain dirt in my baskets.

Today I got in all my onion sets and garlic. I grow sweet onions (which don't store well, but good eats) and yellow onions. I also planted my shallots today, first year I have tried these. I was hoping to get my peas in but I just ran out of time. :(

Thanks for those pics! I bought more tomato stakes the other day. Gonna plant me some taters!

I have also promised everyone 1 pet chicken each. These are actually going to be practice chickens-i want to make sure that if I buy 30 or so that they don't drop dead as soon as they touch my grass.

Thanks for posting the potato pics. I picked up some wire last week. Just need to cut it to length and gather some mulch up. I actually was at a b day party yesterday and tried describing this method to an older gentleman. He grew up on a farm and thought I was nuts. I tried to compare the basket to "hilling up" around the plants. Then he understood.

I am hoping the wire I bought does not have to large of holes. Its a welded wire I planned to use for my tomatoes as well. I guess we will find out. :)
