Hey Jay good to see you. :frow

The garden looks wonderful.. coming along nicely. I can relate to the lack of rain. We have not had any rain this year.

So what type of dehydrator trays do you have pictured?? Are you solar dryin g or using a dehydrator?

The whirligigs in the garden... What type of birds do they scare off??? Do they work for pesky crows??

I hope your family is all well, and that the kids are enjoying their summer.

g

ps. I am on my second batch of meat birds. :woot

Hey J, Long time no see. Now I can see why! You have been busier than a one armed paper hanger. ;) The garden looks great despite the lack of rain. We are hurting for rain here as well. Look at all those jams...and the syrup looks yummy!! I will be making elderberry syrup in a few weeks. Glad the root cellar is working out. Its nice to have a place to store fresh foods hu? Hope you can check in a little more often, miss ya around here.

I'd like to know more about your mushroom logs. Everything I've been reading about growing mushrooms seems to be geared to indoor production, and keep the temperature fairly low-- something we can't do without spending more money on air conditioning than we could ever save on growing our own mushrooms. What kind of mushrooms are you growing (when you get rain, that is)

Who needs some squash? I have frozen, dehydrated more than 107 pounds of squash. I have more dehydrated squash than ever. With my B-day present, Excalibur 9 tray, so much more is being done with the same amount of energy. Pickles, jams, green maters, and corn is completed.

I continue to work 10-12 days over at the new shop getting it ready. The retail section is nearly completed, all the wiring/lighting has been completed. The electrician that did the work was a scam and I caught him on tape doing some real weird stuff. The whole place is wired for sound and video. So I fired him after he decided to speak to me in a less than professional manner. I didn't come here to rant.

Maters are coming in at a wonderful 5 pounds a day now, and puree them daily to keep up with the sauce for canning, I get just over a gallon a day using my kitchen aid processing attachments. My arm, wrist and family thank me for that. I have a hand held back up, grandma old one that still works great. What would take me 3 hours, takes me 9 minutes. I tried out a new heirloom Roma tomato this year. Its an interesting fruit, ripens at a small size, but punches you in the mouth with flavor. I made a mater soup last week and it was yummy. I am puree some of the to, dehydrating it to use in soups this winter.

Closed Dads estate, and things are calming now on that front. I suspect my feelings in this matter will come to the same results as any other family friend who has passed. I hope they are at peace.

Family life is doing great, I am careful not to be grumpy from working six days a week and all the hours. But still old man grumpy raises his head from time to time. I am nearly done with the new shop. My facebook page is loaded with pictures of the garden and new shop.

What Veggie are you tired of harvesting?
