I would love to see one about rainbarrels. They just became legal in Colorado this year so it's kind of exciting. It's like telling a kid they can have a puppy.
Legal?? Why would they be illegal? Hmmmph, politicians!

Loved it! Didn't think you said friend/client too much at all.

I would've liked a bit more detail on building the smoke house, what you used, etc, and better lighting for the inside shots.....maybe use a flashlight during that little bit.

Here are the questions that came to my mind (but if I didn't have this forum, I'd just look for more youtube clips and do a google search): When/why vents? Don't you want the smoke to stay in? How do you know when to open the vents, how much to opent them, etc? And I didn't see the side vents....

What did you build the shelves with? Hardware cloth? What was the s hook for? I thought you were going to hang the bacon, so I was surprised to see the shelf.

Do you turn it at all during the smoking? Do you have to add chips after a while? More coals? Can a wood fire be used instead?

What are some of the dimensions? How far from the fire do you put the bacon? What else can you smoke in the smokehouse? What is the desirable temp for the meat....what is too hot?

OK, this is the way my mind works......but I loved the visual, it seems so doable!!! I'm definitely gonna do it now, if not this fall, next year for sure. Thanks for the encouragement and making it real.

Those are valid questions free, however, I am not an expert, and my approach may not meet USDA standards, hence the lack of some info. But your right, I could have added more info on the smokehouse build, shelf materials, yes continue to add chips and charcoal. I did mention other things folks could smoke, but cut that out because it was getting long.

Thank you for your advice and comments, I might make a new one in the near future. It was my first shot at something a little more intense than say a potatoe basket. hehe...

Thanks Pam, I enjoy your blog too...

Kelle, well I fibbed, its a rain container that holds 275 gallons of rain water. With the increase in size of my garden this year, I found that I can only give my garden 3 good soaks with it. But its water from the sky and I don't put added stress on my own drinking well water system.

I have a mushroom video in the works, and I will be sure to add more info as I go.

Thanks for the feedback so far..... :thumbsup

That sounds more like a dream water barrel for me. LOL In my dream house (imaginary at this point), I would collect from every building (barns, sheds, greenhouses) and have it all diverted to one super large storage tank for use around any of the plantlife. You know how such fantasies work. ;)

The rain barrels were illegal to use due to water rights here in Colorado. They have this thing called first in time, first in line. I have never heard of any state that has such strict water use laws as here. Some of it has to do with Colorado rivers and mountains water states like Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico, etc.

Thanks for the warning about the mouth watering and tummy gowls. Against my better judgement I watched it anyway. Now I am running around screaming BACON. My eyes are glazed and my chin is wet from drooling.

I enjoyed the video. I can't wait to show DH. That looks like something that would be right up his ally.

And just because I have to - I am going to tell you that when I read your answer to #32 I spewed coke all over my computer.
(Now you know how my brain works.)

:D Hope you don't think it was a criticism in any way of your video....answer any one question for me and I will always come back with ten more questions. Always drove my teachers nuts. They would get that hunted look in their eyes when my hand went up....

:yuckyuck That is me with my younger DS. He asks a question and I tremble because I know it will be about 10-20 minutes of discussion! I think it is great, really, though. He is smart and inquisitive. :)

There is nothing wrong with criticism, of course the deploy method has a lot to do with it.

I didn't feel anything negative about your response, I felt it was constructive.

I learned a long time ago, that people have advice from their knowledge, and they will share it with you.

Perhaps many people teaching something, have to force it, I like to understand it before I try it.

If that makes sense....
