Ha! Love the milking song!!!

Next time tell him he's got to sing "I want a lover with a slow hand" to her....

DDeb - I know it's kind of expensive, but those little giants would work for 12 eggs....are those too big?

 You guys are funny.

The meat chicks have been banished to the back porch :sick I stuck them in an old rabbit cage and used some old lids from rubbermaid tubs for walls. Definitely a SS brooder

Of course Java's goats are in love with her so perhaps they WOULD sing that type of song. :gig

Can't hurt them for trying!

Hey now...that's just the buckling and he's gone :D

Funny thing though - *I* tried singing to Perdy once while I was milking her and she whipped her head around and gave me this look that simply said "WTH?" then she stomped and snorted until I quit singing :hide I guess my pipes aren't as good as Hubby's. They only love me because I control the grain...sniff...

I did some looking, and found one that holds 7 eggs. I think it even has an automatic turner. It was about $136.00. Someone told me that they have some incubators in a store near here, and since I need to go there this week anyway, I'll look then. If not, I'll get the one that does 7 eggs. I'd like one bigger, but I think w/the space and time that I have, I'm probably better off (for now at least) getting the smaller one.

My first attempt at cheese is a success, I guess. :hu A basic chevre. The goat flavor is going to take some getting used to. I tasted it plain and there was a hint of goat, but it did not remind me of vomit like other goat cheese I've tasted. So I am happy about that. Then I added herbs to half of it and that was quite yummy and almost knocked out the goatiness. I would make it again. There's no way my kids will eat it though.

I probably need to get used to the flavor before I move on to other cheeses. Feta might work out for me.

In other goat news: Perdy had an accident this morning, but I think she's OK. She somehow got her hock stuck in between 2 slats of the gate. It was wedged tight. It was raining, and I was on the ground crying and praying trying to get her free without further injury. Thank goodness she stayed calm and let me work on it. She was wedged so tight that I knew I would have to just force it out and risk a flesh injury. Thank goodness that did not happen, but she was limping. I penned her up with her hay and water and gave her some herbal pain/inflammation stuff. She seems OK and is walking on it now, but it's swollen and tender. She'll get TLC for a couple days and I'll watch her for shock. And the gate will get another board across the bottom.

I am so sorry to hear about Perdy. I'm glad you were able to get her unstuck. Hopefully she will be fine in a day or two.

Congrats on the first cheese!

Congrats on the cheese. The only cheese I have made so far is a very simple one that uses vinegar to make the milk curd. Then just use the cheesecloth to drain it, add whatever herbs or salt you want and spread on crackers. Best cracker spread we have ever had. But simply no time to make anything harder.

I hope Perdy is better soon. Has that last doe sold yet?

Perdy is still swollen but she's walking on it, thank goodness.
I still have the one doeling to sell, plus the one I'm thinking about keeping. I think I give up until the weather improves. I have a lake out there and would be embarrassed to have stangers see how awful it is right now. Plus, with Easter I'm just too busy. They are both nice quiet doelings so I don't mind having them around. It's actually great to see their real personalities come out now that the really boisterous kids are gone :)

I'm going to try that vinegar cheese tomorrow.
