It IS kinda cool. But I want to say "I made cheese that the kids actually EAT" :D (I forgot to announce it when I was cutting the cheese :p)
I really want to learn to make cheese curds but I don't have enough milk for it. I may have to get another goat. :hide Did I say that out loud? :gig

ETA: I just saw an add on craig's list for "5-Baby Duck Chicks - $30" and it says they are white. Oh the things one can find on CL

It took me a few days to get to this but congrats on the cheese!!!!

And when someone responds to a craigslist ad with "still got it?" or "got 'em?" or something similar, they are looking for your personal email address. If you respond via email, they have your address forever and can then send you spam. Just hit delete.

I always write something in my ads like, "Email your name and contact phone number. Sorry, but I will NOT respond via email." They can respond through craigslist without you getting their email address, but once you reply, that blinded emailing ends. I don't like putting my phone number online, either. So this method works. I still get the "Still have item?" emails and I just delete them.

Thanks Free! And great advice too :thumbsup

I am waiting on a new 6 quart stockpot to be delivered - I only have a huge one and it was ridiculous for only using a half gallon of milk :p It was a long overdue purchase anyway, even if I wasn't making cheese.

Thank you for explaining why I got two responses like that to my latest ad!

If you wait for your little girls to grow up, then you will have more goats! Just be patient. Believe me, before you know it, you will be swimming in milk. :D

I will respond to people by email for Craigslist but I have to see that they are specifically asking about the goats that I'm advertising. If they don't have that in the body of the email what I'm selling, then I don't respond. I don't like to call people unless they are really serious so they don't have my phone number if I call them.

The other thing that you can do is set up an free email account specifically for Craigslist. Then you can just have all Craigslist email go to that. Then they don't have your personal email address. I'm more of an answer by email type of gal.

Way to go on the cheese! I sure wish I had a backyard (or neighboring yard) of raw milk source. Wish you were my neighbor. :D

I was just looking at the week's forecast. We may not see the sun again until a week from this Saturday. :he I don't know when any of us Ohioans are going to get any mowing and gardening done. :barnie

I made an acid-set cheese - the lemon juice one. It is awesome! I'm wondering at what point you would work in the salt or seasonings? I put it in a cheesecloth lined colander and it was quite firm very quickly - I had to crumble it and then salt it. It was a little rubbery, which I love. I can't believe how fast it was!
And - is the yield usually very low for this cheese? And can you do any more with the lemon juice whey that is left?

I read if the whey was milkey you should have used more lemon juice.

I fed my whey to my chickens but they didn't like it. The next time I gave it to the dogs and they loved it.

When I made my first batch like that, I but the herbs in before I drained it. The second time I put it in after. I think it came out better when I put it in after.

I was amazed a giant pot of milk made a regular sized bowl of cheese!
