Do you have any jewel weed nearby? The juice in the stems is supposedly a natural remedy for poison ivy.

I've also found that bleach and hot water are a perfect match for poison ivy.

Yes...tis the season for poison ivy as I've found...:(

I'll have to search around about jewel weed...its so hard to keep from itching!!! I'm currently trying to reason with myself why a PLANT needs a defense mechanism like this!! Eeeessshhhh!!! Talk about not wanting to be eaten...

I thought that was the coolest suggestion, but we don't seem to have jewelweed. :somad

It was some consolation, however, to learn how yummy stinging nettles tastes! But everything that grows in the underbrush here seems to have thorns if it isn't stinging nettle. The difference is you know immediately you'd been hit whereas poison oak kinda creeps up on you.

My nephew is a firefighter and he was never allergic to poison oak. So he would happily volunteer to be the one to plunge through it. Till all of a sudden he became allergic one time and had a HUGE reaction because he had gotten it all over him.

Yea I had never really gotten it either, and I know I've been in the stuff before! And then suddenly we're in it for just a few minutes (and not even that much of it) and now its everywhere!!!

Hi Java! :frow

Hi Glen! :frow

Hi everyone else! :frow

I just called my friend, the county weed man. He's going to check out our hedgerow and give me an estimate for how much it will cost to spray it. It's infested with poison ivy and it's spreading into the garden and yard FAST! :rant

Uh-hu. Aggie, The WEED man? Seriously though, poison ivy is thriving here too because it's so stinking wet.

I have not much to report. It's still raining and we are ankle deep in mud. Milking is going so-so. All Rory does is eat, but I only got a pint out of her this morning. She scores a D- and I'm not sure I'll keep her. A pint doesn't seem worth it. I still have both doelings and they are nearly 4 months old and still nursing on both mamas all day long  so I don't milk in the evenings. People keep telling me that the does will wean those babies, but I don't see it happening. They literally lift their legs so the babies can have access.
