I have heard that duck was greasy but
this was a rumor that was started in the 70's and it wont die. if you had duck roasted by Bourbon Red you'd drop what you are doing and run right out and get a yard full of ducks
;-)

and dont forget that potatoes roasted in duck fat are a wonder to behold (and eat!).

you absolutely have to lock them in for the nite - they dont say they are "sitting ducks" for nothing!

:)

It's a beautiful but a little too warm day today
The goats are already spoiled rotten. They are telling me it's time to go browse. I say they need to finish that flake of hay they have strewn all over the place  Yeah, like that's gonna happen. I'm so glad I learned here that they waste alot.
A squirrel woke me up this morning banging on my window - my room is halfway underground because we live in a split level. Bad squirrel. Anyway, I'll tell you a secret - hubby and I have separate bedrooms. No, there's not any marital difficulties. We just run on really different schedules. He needs much less sleep than I do and it simply wasn't working out in the same room. Plus, we each have a way that we prefer the bedcovers and we don't have to have that fight anymore. And he can sleep on his back and snore like a trucker if he wants. So we are both happy.
And we are spending the afternoon inside rearranging furniture :p It is also time to dispose of some old things that are taking up room. Clutter makes me unhappy.

Have you ever had sausage gravy on whole wheat waffles? It is wonderful. And a bit lighter than biscuits, I didn't feel sick after I ate it. :p

I know of a few couples that sleep in different bedrooms but have no marital problems going on. I think more people do it than you realize. But it is one of those things that you don't talk about.

It is warmer than I thought it would be today. I have lots of chores to do today. I wasn't feeling well yesterday and got no chores done so now I have double chores to do. Plus I ended up rescuing a kitten that wandered into our yard and the dogs were having a go with it. I'm not sure if it is going to make it or not but the kitten wasn't torn up or anything. Not even a bite on it. Of course I got bit by the kitten getting her/him away from the dogs. I have the kitten in a carrier in the basement. Seems to be resting. Will see if it is alive later after I finish my chores. If the kitten makes it, then we have another barn cat. If it doesn't, then at least it had a comfortable place to be and not torn up by dogs. I get so mad at my dogs but they don't know the difference. They just know that a strange animal has entered their domain. If if was a possum or raccoon or ground hog, I would have let them get the job done.

Yes ducks need a secure night pen. I have 7 in a net covered run with a night pen in my small suburban backyard. I would feel better with 6, but I have one extra drake left from the spring hatch I haven't sold. We may eat him, but so far he and the other drake are getting along fine and the girls aren't being abuse, so he can stay.

OK, they are playing in a pile of hay and are happy now. Maybe they are just bored. No rain, no bugs, no weeds left = unhappy ducks. But I am not getting the pool out again, I don't care how hot is is today! One week of haring about pool withdrawal from those crazy quackers was enough :barnie

update: an hour passes and Fran has claimed the flake of hay by standing on it. The others are all sitting in a circle around her. She has the power  But they are quiet.

I'm off to the feed store now. I have to get wormer for the goats to have their second dose anyway.

I ended up getting a bag of scratch and a bag of 20% duck and goose pellets for now. They haven't touched it yet.

BUT! I just discovered a new feed store that opened today! and is only about 2 miles away from me. I haven't gone in yet, but I checked their web page and it looks like they have everything for the farm! Supplies, meds, feeds, supplements. I just have to navigate through some ugly construction to get to it :p
Wish I had known it was open before I hit the feed mill. Feed mill prices were high and nothing is on display so you don't really know what you are getting.
Ooooh, they carry bulk single grains! I can mix my own now!

thats strange that your feed mill prices were high, up here the mills are always cheaper than the farm stores. And you can mix your own at the mills, or they will make the mix for you.

Anyway, it is always fun to explore a new feed store!
