Awwww, so precious!!! Why do goats have to do this to us? Why can't they just squirt them out like a normal critter???? I ask you!

Half Pint is a little sweetie. It's a shame about her brother, but at least you know how to do the birth assisting. Looks like Pebbles will be a great Mama.

Thanks everyone. Pebbles is a great momma. She is protective, and loveing...just like I hoped. I have not let them in the yard yet, I am worried for Half Pint because of all the rain and cold. I think they are just fine in thier stall, for now anyways.
I Might have to milk out Pebbles a bit, she is looking pretty big, and well Half Pint just doesnt drink that much milk! So, how much milk should I take from a pygmy goat...so there is enough left for one baby? Should I take a bit from both sides, or just one side? HELP! LOL
As for knowing what to do, Hmmm, knowing and haveing the guts to do it is 2 different things. LOL I knew we had to pull the little guy out, but I just couldn't bring myself to do the pulling. I grabbed her shoulders, and let my friend pull! There were no feet to grab, so the pulling had to be done by the head. I just would have lost it if the head was to come off in my hands!:th
Had the neighbor girl come and clean the sheep side of the barn today, tomorrow we will do the goat side. :sick NOT looking forward to that at all.
Oh, and this morning when I went out to feed them all...I called for the "boys" ( the 3 big goats) and only 2 came from the barn. Casper usually is the FIRST to the fence, but didnt come out. I just knew he was up to no good...so I ran inside to find him in with Pebbles and the baby...he was standing on top of the dog crate in there....looking for a way out. :somad So, this morning I spent 2 hours putting up a fence on top of the divider....to keep him on his own side. :tongue He didn't look to amused. Just hopeing this works...and hopeing as well, I will have a new home for the 3 boys. Those hay burners are really going through the feed. UGH!
OK, now I need to go finish up outside with the chickens...and im going to TRY to get a few things in the garden, before the rain comes.

hay burners.. hee hee hee

its ok to milk out pebbles... i was told to do it twice a day but the first couple days i only did it once. remember that she will create milk "on demand".. just milk her out on both sides. this will keep her milk going and you are just right... the little ones wont take all the milk at first..but she will eventually!

after a couple weeks...and when it warms up you can separate the baby at night and milk out the momma in the morning. she will make plenty of milk for everyone.

and i still think you are REALLY brave even if you pulled on her shoulders
:)

yay you!

So, I can milk her...Hmmmm....something I am going to try tomorrow. I DID milk her the first day, just to get enough to get the baby a jump start...and you know what?? It was Easy!! I was like....really? this is all there is to it!?? Hmmm, not too bad! Oh yummy, fresh goats milk again! NOW I am even MORE excited! LOL
OFG, I dont know about being brave...it was one of those moments...everything goes in slow motion, you react as if your watching a movie...then when its all over, you collaps. Yup, thats what I did! LOL Then I ran to the shower...as I was covered in goat goo. :sick I can almost still feel it on my hands, and arms...and legs...and face...yes, my face. Dont ask! LOL Things happen. :gig

Hey Bee...thanks. She really is a great mom. Calling to her every second that half pint might "wander off" Yesterday as I was in the barn cleaning...I stopped for a second ( or two) to watch them. Little Half Pint tried to jump and hop...and resulted with her laying down. LOL Still not strong enough for those actions. Soon little one...soon!

I've often wondered what it is about us..well, some people...that makes our hearts leap for joy when viewing that mother/baby bond. Its almost like a visceral pull that one can feel, way down deep, towards the beauty of that relationship. It never gets old for me.

It all sounds so wonderful, J....wish we lived next door so that I could walk over and see them! :)

Maybe just being mothers....there is a bond there that none can mimick. That special...I can feel my baby's heartbeat with mine, bond. Once you have been there...every mother/child bond sends memories right back to fill up the sences. I can sit and watch a hen with her chick for hours...and feel an urge to want to cuddle something!!
Oh, my place here is nothing to talk about....well...not good talk, LOL We have animals..and mud. Nothing fancy...but, its home. I wish you were closer as well Bee..haveing someone like you for a neighbor would top off my world!
