Debbie, you tickle my soul like a good snack.... :pop

These have been some hard times, but living is for the living, and that is what what it is?

My heart has been sad, my spirits have been good. I love life the same as I did before, I need to get beyond this.
this struggle.... It does seem better, as time sees fit.

I need to heal.....

XOXO.... Jay

Aww, Jay. You and I have both suffered an immence loss. However...we are strong...we have family and friends that wont let us stop.
In the early hours of the morning, when my farm is just wakeing up, I sit with my coffee and listen...and think. Most days a single tear falls down my cheek...thinking of how I miss my son, and how he loved coming out here. He would tell me...."Mom, I LOVE this place, and when you and Dad are gone, I want to carry on, right here" My other 3 children want nothing to do with this farm. Who knows...thier views may change, but I sincerly doubt it. There have been many times since my sons accident, that I have sat here and thought... " Why not just sell all of this, and get a small RV, and just travel the rest of our lives.? Why are we working so hard, and for what? No one really cares about this farm now, like I do." THATS when the tear falls........but, then I look around at all the hard work we have put into this place, turning it from a dump into a homestead, and I smile. Nope, I can't give up now. Like it or not, this is what I will leave for my surviveing children. A small farm, with a decent home, several out buildings, a 4 car shop, Fruits of a great variety, a small pond, and a small parcel of woods. And, a legacy....of an Airforce wife gone back to the country..and LIVING life.

So, today was a wierd day. I started out being fairly SS....I canned the last of the corn. However, it didnt turn out. Not sure what happened, but it ALL turned brown in the jars, almost like it was burnt...and mushy. :hu So, that dampened my spirits a little. My plan was to can the new potatos..after the corn. That didn't happen. My spirits slightly broken, I made hubby dinner...and as I was finishing up, the neighbor called me and asked me to come outside so we could talk for a bit. After packing hubbys lunch/dinner for work...I headed outside to the barn. My neighbor lives on the other side of the barn. We chatted for a bit, she was burning trash in a barrell...then started busting up an old dog house that was far beyond repair, and throwing it in the fire. We chatted as she worked, and I worked on the goats fence....not 20 feet away. After we were both finished, we sat under the trees....and just talked. Not really about anything important...silly girl stuff...really enjoying the day. The sun was warm, but not hot, and there was a wonderfull breeze. We both ended up on our backs, under the trees, watching the clouds...and chatting. Before we knew it...4 hours had passed!!!!!:ep What a GREAT waste of a day. I feel energised, and ready for another day. Some days, we all need a day to just lay under the trees, and have silly conversations. We split a few persimmon seeds...to see what the winter holds. Out of 3 seeds, ALL showed a spoon. :/ The old lore states....find a spoon and there will be deep snow, find a fork and there will be little snow. DRATS! Guess I better be getting in the hay, and cover the firewood. I really wish the garden would have done better...but we will be OK. Its time to get the "essentials" restocked...coffee, TP, canned milk, flour, sugar, salt, pepper, and yeast.

Sounds like you needed that. Almost like a mini vacation. What a wonderful way to renew your spirits and energy! And you know you need both of those to be SS!

It has been a while since I have updated. Not really much going on around here. Well...not much SS stuff. My tomatos are really starting to come on now....so I have been trying to get as many canned as possible. I walked in the garden and noticed the green beans are just starting to produce. I might just get some in the pantry yet! The Brussels sprouts are still growing great....been freezing them too.
Today we are headed to Ohio...to the inlaws. Every year they have a "last of the summer cookout" on Labor Day weekend. Should be a good time. :/
One of the BIL are supposed to be coming back with us and staying with us a week. Hubby took the week off, and they are going to try to get a few things done before winter. Like replace/rebuild the doors on the shop. I hope they get that done!! Those doors are in some bad shape....and I dont think they will make it through the next winter. Then they are going to replace the gutters on one of the chicken coops. The gutter doesn;t want to drain into the barrell....but over the edges....just needs lowered on the end. Lets see...clean out the fire pit, till part of the garden under....move 20 tons of dirt and gravel. :D Me?? I will be canning, cooking, cleaning, and careing for the animals. :p
It was nice and cool here the last few days....have the house open. Woke this morning thinking...I need to get a fire in the woodstove. Then I remembered its ONLY sept. However, it is in the LOW 40's here and I am LOVEING IT! They say back into the 90's by Tuesday. Im thinking Mother Nature is PMS'ing.
So, nothing exciteing going on here...just moveing right alone, waiting for Fall. :D My FAVORITE season.

hope that you have a great time with the inlaws :)

I love fall too! So many folks on here are talking about feeling fall in the air, it won't happen here for a while. I usually start fall with some fallish decor because there just is no 'fall iin the air' until October :/
