I accidentally broke our mower, so our grass is getting looooong....
Oh YIKES! Is it an easy fix at least?? I hope! Hubby came in about 20 minutes ago, so I am letting him finish the mowing. Whew! I had my shower already, LOL Time for a cool down. But, oh boy, that "tank top farmers tan" is looking good! :D I Was literally being chased by a deer fly...or a whole swarm of them...WOWSA those things can bite hard!! Now I have these little welts all over my arms and neck. Ohhh, how I hate deer flies!! :rant I will let hubby battle them now. I am .... out for the count, color me red, stick a fork in me DONE!

Woooooowheeeeeeeeeeeeee!! ITs HOT HOT HOT!!!!
I mean.....REALLY??????? Its hot enough to make the Devil sigh! at one point today, I looked at the thermometer in the Banty Shanty.... 110 degrees!!! :th My poor chickens. I feel bad for them, I have fans on them, and fresh water every few hours, but they are panting and holding their wings out. :(
Since I mowed for 4 hrs yesterday, I decided to not do too much outside today. Oh, I made several trips out to make sure everyone had water...and just walking to the coops, being out there 15 minutes or so, by the time I came in, I looked like I was drenched with a garden hose. YUK!
At least we are not getting rain with this heat....I am thinking I might have to grow gills if it gets much more humid.
Supper is started...porck chops, mac and cheese baked, and pickled beets...with a side of sliced onion and tomato, and bread and butter. That will fill ya up! :p I think once it cools down, I will make a peach cobbler....yum, I have been craving it for some time now. I also have to make a big bowl of ham salad, for hubby's lunches this week. *sigh* a womans work is never done!

:gig Ain't it the truth sister!

Ham salad sounds divine. How did you make yours?
Well....ok, I cheat....I get a chub of Bologna...cut it into manageable chunks, and put them through the old cast iron hand crank. Add Salad dressing, ( we don't like mayonnaise) add sweet pickle relish, and there ya go! It really is good, and a cold ham salad samich on a hot day hits the spot with a glass of sweet tea!

It still sounds good. I like bologna too! :)
It is really good. My MIL showed me how to make it,years ago. Its really inexpensive to make, and kids love it! I only do a half a chub at a time tho, it really makes a LOT!

Wow, Thursday already!! I have been super busy outside lately, trying to get the place "spiffed up" a bit before we get company again...Hubby and I increased the size of one of the duck pens last week, so I decided it needed painted. Took me 2 days to get just the fencing done, still need to paint the duck house. Then I need ot make a gate on the other duck pen, and a new door for the turkey hut. I am going to try to get that finished today. Yesterday I had to mow the sheep pasture. UGH!!! This really irritates me to have to waste gas on an area where animals are suppose to be doing their job! It has just been so humid, and hot, the sheep can not keep up with it all. So, I mowed, and raked, and I will store the grass when its dry. So, the last 3 nights, I have had a predator getting in the coop. I have lost 2 of my barred rock ladies. :somad Last night I think I got it closed up tight enough...I will know in a few minutes when I head out there to open the coops. I detest predators! Looks like I will have to start incubating after the turkey eggs are finished. I am now down to 5 BR ladies. I still have the BO, and the mutts...but I really like my BR.
Yesterday after mowing the pasture, I was able to get the pile of straw stuff from the last barn cleaning, and get it into the garden. I need to clean the barn again...why do they insist on peeing IN the barn?? I looked at the thermometer this morning....63 degrees!:weee After the last few days, heat indexes of 100 to 110.....I might have to wear a T shirt, instead of a tank! LOL Either way, I am headed out to get a few things done before it gets too hot.

NOT Southern, Ca. :)
Keeping busy as usual.

Sorry to hear about your hens. I hope you catch whatever is terrorizing the coop.

Stay cool.

Yum yum, lunch time! I went out at 8 am, and got started. Opened the barn, fed the sheep and pigs....went to the Banty shanty to open it and before I could get there the goose was screaming her head off! LET ME OUT NOW! She can be quite demanding sometimes. OK, so I let her out, and how does she thank me!?? With a nip on the bum~! :rant Next time she can stay in there until last! I screamed, she honked, I threw my hands up, she threw her wings out, I got a stick, she ran off! HAHA! VICTORY is mine!!!
So, after opening the other large coop....I decided to get busy building a gate for the other duck pen, and a new door for the turkey hut. Both are built, painted, and the turkey's door is on. I have to dig a hole for the post for the gate yet, then mount the gate for the duck pen. Here is a picture of the new duck pen all painted and spiffy, until it rains I am sure. LOL

This second pic is where the new gate will go....

Still waiting on the paint to dry. And, I was fading...so I needed to come in and get some lunch. Peanut butter and Jelly....quick, easy..and yum...with an ice cold glass of fresh goats milk.
Then, while I was out there, I get a call from the rescue...they have 7 hens, 12 ducks, and a black goat....they need me to foster. I am waiting on the pics from them to see what I am getting into. Hoping the goat is a female..or at least castrated....knowing in my heart, it wont be either. Im sure it will be a big stinky male. :sick Now I will have to move some ducks around, and make an empty pen...so I don't have to worry about bringing in diseases to MY flock. Hey, anyone want a few ducks!?? LOL I am praying they will be those cute little Call ducks...but I dont think I will be THAT lucky. LOL
OK, back to the grindstone....
OK, the gate is finished...and the duck yard is cleaned up...a bit.

Curly...the white Pekin drake is happy...I think. Its hard to tell when all he does is run from me! LOL Oh, and Hubby named him Curly...not me!
