Hey Karen, these sheep are really no work at all. They are Baby doll sheep. Only getting 2 ( yeah right) LOL
Poor Kiki is still not useing the leg. I am going to give it untill the meds run out...another few days. Hope he will be better by then.
I agree shooting a cat...and one that was OBVIOUSLY running away is just mean and cruel.I say obviously running away as the bullet went in the back of his leg, and came out the front near the knee. I was able to keep the vet bill down by just getting the exam, pain meds, antibiotics, and treatment for ear mites. No X rays. The vet said she didnt feel any broken bones tho. Thats good! Just hopeing he recovers...and stays "home" now.

What a great day Saturday. I was up early..the sun shining shortly afterwards...was 51 degrees! HEAT WAVE! I had posted on Craigslist 3 turkeys for sale....and had them sold by 10 am! Whew...another empty pen...for another wanted breed of chickens! LOL Ran to town....picked up a few things for Sunday dinner. In laws coming for Sunday dinner. So, I get home and my brother calls. Now...this brother I have not heard from since the passing of our mother last September. So anyways...he calls, and wants to com for a visit. Of course I say YES!!! Get the house straightened, fill water barrels...bring in a load of firewood...and my brother, his wife, and thier beautifull 2 yr old daughter show up. We had a great visit. Took them out to show them the animals.( She is VERY CITY GIRL) I had taken out a couple packs of porkchops for dinner ( from our pig) Made fried taters, home canned green beans, fresh home made cloverleaf rolls, home canned applesauce, sliced tomatos and green onions. My brother has not had a "home made" meal in a long time. He kept going on and on about how good dinner was. Really made me feel proud...my big brother giving ME compliments. Unfortunately, as always, time passes too quickly and they have to head home. ( Its an hr drive for them) So, I pack them a box with sausage, ham hocks, a chicken(frozen) and 2 dozen eggs. It was nice to just have a calm easy day. Today, the inlaws are coming for dinner..I have 2 chickens resting in the sink...and will make stuffing, mashed taters, home canned corn, gravy, biscuits, Salad and cottage cheese. Oh, and I made some chocolate chip cookies useing salt free margaring, splenda white and dark sugar, and dark chocolate chips. Inlaws are diabetic..and these cookies are safe for them to eat. My father inlaw requested the cookies. LOL So, another good day planned...family, food, and good conversation. I have to say...I am feeling blessed.

What kind of turkeys did you sell?

We found a female Royal Palm on CL...and the lady has a female Narragassett, too, and said she'd give us a two for one deal if we take both! Of course, we said yes! Just trying to figure out when we're going to pick them up.

Sunday turned out to be another great day. The weather was nice..I was able to get a few more things done outside before the inlaws showed up. They came about 1 and I had dinner almost done...just as I was about to put it on the table...my BIL called...he is stopping by with his wife and 2 girls. Thankfully I had made way too much, and there was plenty for all. Another great day of a meal shared with family. The girls love coming out and visiting with the animals..and I keep several pairs of mud boots, different sizes for grandkids and nieces ( we dont have any nephews, ALL GIRLS) So, the girls went out after dinner and the adults sat around just chatting and enjoying great conversation. I really must say...this was a perfect weekend. Unfortunately....today is monday...back to the normal grind. LOL Im headed out to clean out coops...and get a pen set for chicks to go into and another ready for ducklings that will be hatching on the 21st.

I'm just getting caught up with your journal...you made me laugh and then made me sad and mad about Kiki.

sounds like you have your hands full! My husband wants to be country but I'm breaking him in too, with help from my family and his MIL's devious plan to give us every farm animal known to man. :)

I have really enjoyed getting to know you and hope to talk more!

Hey Lori, thanks. :)
My DH is definately NOT a farmer. I mean...he was raised an AF bratt..and I DO mean BRATT! LOL His closest encounter with farm animals was dinner his mother bought from the commisary. LOL
In the last 3 years...He has learned...to cut wood, split and stack by hand! Build animal shelters. The last coop we built is 12 x 30...has 4 inside pens, and a closet..with a 4 ft walk way for me...and 3 windows, with insulated walls. Yeah, he is learning! LOL
We did a small garden the last few years ( 15 x 15) Which he has learned to handle a rototiller. ( THAT in itself is a great story) This year we have another garden, about 30 x 70. So, he is learnign to garden, grow food, and help preserve it. He has learned about fruit trees....drainage issues in the pasture...and home repairs. Wow, come to think of it...he has learned ALOT in a few years. ( stick chest out with pride) :D And, I have to admit, for the most part, he doesnt complain when I say..." honey, guess what we are adding to the farm" LOL This year, its sheep. Last year, was pigs. Oh...and there is another funny story with DH and pigs! It has definatley been a learnign experience with him. Oh, and his family...they think I am nuts....of course..."makeing my DH work so hard on MY dream" Yeah, whatever.! When DH and I get a chance to sit, and reflect on the things we have accomplished...he tells me how happy he is out here. That in itself...makes ME happy. Now if I can only get him to help butcher chickens! HA! Dont think that will ever happen. Thats ok, I dont mind really. So....we are still plugging along here...trying to get the fruit trees in..and the berry patch going. If DH wasnt allergic to bees....I would raise them as well. But, thats where he " put his foot down" LOL I dont blame him...i guess! LOL
