Here it is the 3rd of January already! Wow, if this is any indicator of how the year will go, we will be cooking turkeys before you know it. I still need to get the trees taken down...hoping to get that done this weekend. 99% of the yard decorations are put up. Hubby did that, :) I am going to go through the linen closet, and sort through the sheets and pillow cases. I bet I literally have 100 or MORE pillow cases. Now, NO ONE needs that many. I will take all the extra's to St. Vincent De Paul's. It is our local Church "good will" I bet by the time I am finished...I will have almost a whole truck load of stuff to donate....lamps, dishes, sheets, pillow cases, just extra stuff. It will feel good to unload this house. Only a few months to get the house cleaned and decluttered...before we know it spring will be upon us and planting time will be here. *sigh* I am already drooling over the seed catalog's.

Lori, don't think my hubby wasn't upset, a little when I told him I wanted to keep Freedom, LOL He gets over it fast tho, when he sees how happy these critters make me. He is a good man!
So today I have been busy winterizing the last chicken coop. We have these vents on the west side and east side of the roof, to let air circulate in the summer. It helps to let the heat out. Well, same goes in the winter...so I have to cover them. I saved some of the feed bags just for this purpose..they are a heavy gauge woven plastic type...
Here is ONE of the 16 vents in the roof....

and after I covered them....

I also saved the clear plastic from the pine shavings. This too is a heavy gauge, maybe 10mm? It works great for the window's, and screen door. I can let the sun in, and keep the cold winds out.

This is the door, sorry it is sideways, I can't figure out how to flip it! LOL The door is on the South side of the coop. It lets the sun in really well..and warms up the coop for me. :)

I feel so much better knowing that I have this finished and out of the way, now to hook up the tank deicers...and I will be ready for it all. I think. LOL
Chicken water heaters are all up and running...so no frozen water for them, I still need to make two more. *sigh* Looks like I will be hitting the good will later looking for more cookie tins.
Later today, I am off to my step dads, a few more thing to pick up from there. His shed was broken into...and they wrecked the locks...doesn't look like they stole anything, just malicious kids I'm guessing. PUNKS! So I went yesterday and moved what he wanted to keep into the garage, and the rest came home with me. A TRUCKLOAD! LOL
Then I am going to BINGO. I deserve a night out, after all I have done. ;)

So this weekend is supposed to be nice, weather wise. Then come mid next week, the bottom will fall out. Snow, cold, wind.....3 four letter words I detest. So, it looks like this weekend I will be preparing for it...the coops are finally winterized....the barn is set up as efficiently as possible, considering I have no water or electric to the barn, and the firewood is stacked. This weekend we will be moving more wood from the shop area closer to the house. I also need to get out there and collect more kindling...we have piles and piles of it, just needing to be broke down and brought in and covered. Laundry is mostly caught up, the house is...well...good as it gets...I need to make a grocery run for some meats in the freezer. Not many, since I just have a feeling we will most likely lose power if we get any sort of storm, we usually do. Having plenty firewood is the biggest thing....good, dry firewood. We need to move the Christmas decorations back to the top of the barn this weekend, while the weather is nice. This will probably be our last chance to do so. So, with that said, I need to get outside and get going here.

Today the weather was perfect for getting outside projects done. We decided to work in the shop, getting some of the Christmas decor put up. When I went to my Step dads the other day, I was able to get the last of the decor my mother had, that he didn't sell. I was especially excited to see the gingerbread house still there. It is now safe in my shop...needs a little paint, but I LOVE this thing!

It is Styrofoam, and loaded with lights! SO pretty when light up. I also was able to get the big white light moose, he stands about 3 ft tall at the shoulders. and is about 5 ft long, just stunning! There were a few others too, a white light deer, and a 6 ft tall animated drummer boy. :D Next year, we will have so much to put out.

However , in order to put this stuff away, we had to clear out a corner of the shop. We used to have it all in the top of the barn, but it is getting too hard to get it up and down from there...so we are making room in the shop for it all. We have a stack of veneer panels....they are about 1 1/2 ft wide x 2 1/2 ft long...and the stack is over 6 ft tall. I moved it all to the coop...in my feed area. My back is killing me tonight.

We also moved about a half of a rick of wood from the garage, it was gross wood, wouldn't dry, and was starting to mold. So it went on the burn pile, and we moved a full rick from the shop area, to the garage.

We worked out there from noon until after 5pm, lifting, hauling, cleaning, packing. I am worn out.
Tomorrow, we go back to my step dads and replace the frame to his bed for him, and fix the down spout, then grand daughters Birthday party at 5 pm. Whew!
