You are always good for a recipe. :D Did you enter any in the BYC cookbook?

Wouldn't a SS cookbook be great? Think of all the unique recipes SSers come up with. All practical and wholesome, of course. ;)
Is that you volunteering to put one together???
Sure, I'll get right on it in my spare time.

I did post some recipes on byc, but did not enter any into the byc cookbook. Did either of you?
I did. :D

10/1/09 - Thursday

Yesterday
Woke to 37 and frost. Rained off and on all day. Winds gusting to 45 mph. Our high temp was 52. We havent turned the heat on yet, but we have finally closed all the windows. I miss my double hung windows, where I could leave a small portion of the window open for fresh air at night. These jalousie windows are not the same and let too much air into the house.

DH had the day off yesterday, so after breakfast (Cream of Wheat) we went and got haircuts; I just had an inch trimmed off. Then we went to the library. I had woken up feeling a bit achy, but otherwise okay. I blamed it on the damp. :) While at the library, I started feeling dizzy, sweating, had chills, and my headache was getting worse.

So we came home. I stuck magnets on my head, had some hot Earl Grey tea and went to bed with a bed warmer. I slept for about 2 hours and then DH woke me up for lunch. He had taken the spicy chili mac out of the freezer. It certainly helped warm us up from the inside. In the freezer, it had gotten even spicier. :D Afterwards, I went back to sleep for a couple hours, and woke up feeling fine. So I am not sure what the problem was. DH hasnt been sleeping well because the neighbors dogs have been barking most of the night for the past six nights. So he took a nap for a couple hours after lunch. Before he decided to nap, he took the leftover pot roast and veggies, added some water and put it in the oven. So we had pot roast veggie soup for dinner after we got back home from our Back In The Box study at church.

Today
Woke up to 38 this morning and more frost! We were at 42 as of 8:45 am, and our high is supposed to be 62. The sun is shining and there is no rain in the forecast. Now at 11:36 am, we are only at 52, so I am not sure we will get as warm as predicted.

Got an email from ds dgf for a recipe chain letter. This one is different from others I have seen in the past, because there are only 2 people on the list at any time. The recipe has to be quick and easy to make and not contain exotic ingredients. I am having trouble narrowing my choice to one recipe. I finally sent Honey & Spice Glazed Pork Chops, which is a recipe I have already posted on ss.

I think winterizing this place is going to be a full-time job. Every where I turn I find another place that is windy, drafty, cold, etc. I am not doing any permanent caulking to this place, as the landlord will not deduct anything we spend on this place from the rent. So I will be doing non-permanent fixes that will be removed and packed up in spring; like door quilts and window quilts.

The back door to this place is metal. We discovered that it gets frost on it when there is frost outside. The door is in the hallway by the bathroom and our bedroom, and you can feel the cold as soon as you get past the small bedroom. Since we dont use this door, I am winterizing it with plastic and quilts.

There is no closet door on the closet in our bedroom. Good thing, too, because when I get out of bed in the morning, I actually am standing in the closet. However, there is a huge draft coming from the closet. So I am thinking of putting some Styrofoam boards or plastic-lined quilts along the walls of the closet to help cut down the cold. We are thinking we might make a faux four-poster out of our bed with quilt curtains, as well.

I am hoping to make bagels today. I will post the recipe later. I havent figured out what I am making for dinner yet; maybe spaghetti and meatballs.

10/2/09 - Friday

My friend Pat called yesterday. There is a funeral luncheon on Saturday and there is no one available to make sure the food is ready on time. She has another commitment (Habitat house build), and Vivian and Millie are both out of town. Vivian is the outgoing funeral coordinator and Millie has just replaced her in the position. So I volunteered. DH is working, so I may as well be helpful. :D

Pat and I also talked about the ServeFest - someone has donated some pints and quart canning jars to add to the ones she and I are donating. I am doing a count of jars to give Pat the number of lids needed, and if rings are needed as well.

I got busy with that and other stuff and didnt make bagels. Yesterday after dh got home from work we had meatball subs for dinner (instead of spaghetti and meatballs). Then we went to storage and brought back a load of stuff, including my large water bath canner and all the canning jars, extra blankets and quilts, and my bag of blue jeans for rug making.

41 this morning, steady rain started in the night sometime. We have 90% chance of rain today. Good day for staying home and getting stuff done. :D

I'm in! :D Those sound interesting. Do you do strips and braid them? I've always wanted to do braided rugs. I have a bag of old blue jeans, but I thought about doing a quilt. My cousins young daughter did her first quilt out of blue jean squares, and it was really nice.
