You guys are funny!

We had strawberry shortcake about 8pm.
MEMORIAL DAY
Monday May 30, 2011
While I made dinner last night, TR cut the majority of the grass in the yard. He said everything north of the main section of the yard, and north and east of the driveway and parking area are still too wet to mow. He finished just before the storm started.
Last night's storm was loud and bright; with boomer that shook the house and that wonderful straight-up-and-down lightening that makes me glad I wasn't out on the lake fishing.
We had to close all the windows on the west side of the house because the rain was coming in. Which is when I realized that the majority of the windows that work (open and have screens) here are on the west side of the house!!
The temp was 62 when the alarm went off; so TR could get ready for work this morning. The sun was already peaking over the eastern horizon as we drank coffee out on the back porch and listened to the world waking up.
As TR was leaving for work, the Amish lumber guys started the bulldozer and headed for the wooded acreage, breaking the quiet of the early morning.
Today's forecast is calling for 92, with a chance of some showers this morning and clearing in time for the Memorial Day parade in the village.

A great day for flying the Flag.
Our beek friend, Durwood, usually dresses in his WWII uniform and gives a grand speech reprensenting VFW after the parade. Last month his wife, Margaret, left this earthly life, in an extremely short battle with cancer. Durwood seems to be doing as well as can be expected for someone who lost their best friend of 65 years.
TR's fishing buddy, Lloyd, who used to be superintendent of schools here, usually speaks as well. Lloyd's health hasn't been good lately, and I didn't see him at church yesterday, so I am not sure if he will be speaking today either.
In this small rural area, God, Country and our Freedoms will appropriately be *the* topics of any speeches today, regardless of who speaks. Depending on where the parade ends, I may be able to hear the speeches from my front porch.
Later today I will textl my brother, a Vietnam vet, and a nephew, a Marine stationed at 29 Palms.
For me, Memorial Day and the week that follows is all that and more....
Twenty-one years ago today my mother left this earthly life for a better one. And on June 5th, it will be twenty-one years since my father followed her. God knows, I still miss them terribly. Thankfully, though, the passing of time has lessened the pain, and I gratefully remember...
TR, my sisters and I have already gone to the cemeteries and cleaned up the gravesites and planted where planting can be done. Yesterday rememberance services were held, and flags were placed on the graves of our veterans of too many wars.
