QA, if you find that the reason for the burr comb on the inner cover is that the bottom deep hive body is full already - do you have frames ready to go for the top deep hive body?

At worst, I think you could use one of the old frames I left you that came with that white hive body. With help, you could attach that comb from the inner cover to a frame. Then put the rest of the frames with foundation in with it.

If the bottom deep isn't filled and they are just ignoring those frames, you could try putting the burr comb into it. Remove one of the frames from the newer hive body. Attach the burr comb to one of the older frames, and stick the frame with the burr comb attached into the newer hive body. Put it near the center of the hive body.
um yea, I'm pretty much confused by all that now - you should so be living next door lol
Yes, but that isn't happening just this second......

But your beek help that is coming should understand what I said. :D

Carefully scrape the burr comb off the inner cover with the flat end of your hive tool. With the wire I left you, you may be able to attach the burr comb to an empty brown frame (came with the white hive body and was in the large black plastic bag I left).

Then put that frame into the center of a hive body. Use the newer hive body (parafin coated) if it is not full yet. Use the older (white) hive body if the newer one is already full.

Either way, the bees will be able to continue to build on that comb and if you contain it to a frame, will be useable from a human's perspective. :)

Yesterday the landlord tried to mow his yard agian. He and his wife were home for about half an hour yesterday. The riding mower he has died about 4 times before he quit trying to get it done; so I think only the front portion is mowed. I can see he still has water in the yard between our houses and in his back yard ....so he may have to wait longer to get the rest of it done. Of course, by then, he will need a scythe to cut the grass. :p

The landlords did not come over to look at the sink hole in our driveway. TR was talking to Don about it on Sunday. Don gave TR an estimate for doing the job "properly" or "on the cheap". Either way, it will cost several hundreds of dollars to fix it.

Paul hasn't shown up yet. I am sick of looking at the barrels in the yard. We're supposed to get rain on Friday, so I am hoping he gets the main roof near the chimney done before then. This area is leaking down the chimney, has been since we moved in 1 1/2 years ago. We were ecstatic to hear the landlord was finally giving Paul approval to do the work! Since this area of the roof has probably leaking since before we moved in, the walls of two of the upstairs bedrooms are a mess from the water.

Well, I have played on the 'puter long enough. Time to go get some stuff done before Mary shows up to get me for the Mary/Martha Circle at 1!

Have fun!

Just got back from Mary/Martha Circle at church. We are halfway done with the queen-size quilt for Pastor Quincy.

The refrigerator repair guy showed up while we were at church. Pat told me she already dumped everything that was in the fridge when the church office opened on Tuesday. Bruce, the head of the church board of trustees, was coming in as we were leaving. He wants to find out what is going on, as the church is averaging a repair a month this year; and the refrigerator is not that old!

A couple that just moved to our area from Mentor stopped by to introduce themselves (Jim and Pat). They are actually going to me neighbors to our friends Dave and Ann.

And if they would have shown up just 10 minutes sooner, they could have met. Dave and Ann had just dropped off some items they no longer need as donations for the Christo Mission Yard Sale at the end of the month.

I told Dave I saw the pics of their 55-acre farm on the internet the other day and they came out just wonderful. He said they have had 2 people look at the place so far, but no offers yet. Well, except the farmer who is leasing their fields. But he just wants the land, not the rest of the property. [Sorry I went to fantasy land there for a second. ..... :p ]

Here at home, the garden is still too wet to properly work.

TR dug up the area where the garlic was planted - officially DEAD.

I let some of the cockscomb drop seeds into the garden last year, thinking it would come up again. This has always worked for me in the past; not sure why it isn't this year.

It looks like my sweet potato vine is dying.

The rosemary got too much rain and is officially DEAD.

Tomatoes, peppers, etc, are sick of being in containers, so I need to do something with them soon.

The lavender and French tarragon seem to be doing okay and are producing new growth.

The yarrow in the back garden has buds, but they haven't opened yet. Hey! but at least I got some. :D

The first peony did blossom this morning. I have a couple pics of it on the camera, but have to transfer them to the computer before posting. The rest of the peonies have huge blossoms on them, so I am hopeful that soon the front garden will be full of them.

TR is home..... sausage for dinner tonight! (QA are you surprised?! I think not! )

ETA: The spider plant that QA & E gave us early in 2009 is doing really well. I have given 4 friends "babies" and the mama plant just keeps producing spiderlets. Thanks, QA & E for such a healthy plant! :D

Were we really in the mid 90s just days ago with heat index near 100?! This morning it sure seems hard to believe.......

The temperature was 51 when we woke up. Now we are hovering at 55 with 10 mph breeze and humidity of 60%.

I see weatherbug has changed the heat index back to wind chill !! So the wind chill this morning is 53

I am not complaining, though. :p The sun is shining and the forecast is calling for a high of 65. Tomorrow's forecast is currently predicting 77 and more sunshine. So it should be another couple of beautiful days here in NE Ohio. :)

Pat sent us the new Encounter hospitality host schedule for June. TR and I are scheduled for June 19 only.

Lately, TR has been messing about with the digital camera. It seems to be working fine, as I used it yesterday to take the peony pictures.

Anyway, I was downloading the photos and these he had taken as part of the testing stage..

Two from the May 20th Indians-Reds game with Frank Sinatra Fireworks.

The quilt top I have been working. It looks like I had just thrown it down on top of the dining table to do something else. It is still in the hoop, embroidery being done.

Thanks! I need to get busy on it. The small spot of green in the left corner of that pic is the backing material.

Of course you can have spiderlets!

I have been wearing sun dresses the past week. But with the cooler temps today, I actually put on t-shirt and jeans.

Paul has finally arrived to work on the roof and clean up! Hurrah!

Well we only got to a high temp of 60 today. The breeze got up to 20 mph, so I ended up shutting most of the windows in the house.

The house temperature, which was reading 95 just a couple days ago, dropped to 60. That is pretty funny considering that in April we had the furnace set to go on at 55. The forecast for tonight is predicting overnight low temp of 40! MY GOODNESS!

Paul removed the full barrels of old roofing material, took his tools and the extra (left over?) bundle of shingles away. But he didn't finish picking up the debris and he didn't finish the main roof leak repair. I didn't get a chance to talk to him before he left, so I have no idea if/when he is coming back.

Here is a pic of some beeswax products. A 1-pound mold and a votive candle. The difference in the two is the age of the wax when melted....and how it was used by the bees. The mold was made by a mentor a few years ago. The votive is from one of my hives. It is mostly virgin capping wax. This afternoon I melted some more beeswax, but it hasn't hardened in the molds yet.

Oh I like that mold!!

The girls were busy as bees today  We think they are visiting the pond behind the neighbors house.

Wish they would just stay in our own yard HAHA

WOW! That mold is awesome!

My garden looks like it has just stalled out. Nothing is growing but it hasn't died yet either. I don't know what to do with it.
