Today was just a beautiful day! Temps here in the upper 70s and low 80...blue skies and sunshine.

A bunch of different stuff going on lately.

Yesterday we went to Mentor and helped sister C with some painting. A tall bro-in-law is a good thing to have when trying to paint a stairwell. And thankfully, he is always willing to lend a hand. C made beef stroganoff with some leftover pot roast, and served it with a mixed veg tossed salad, so we enjoyed dinner on her patio at the umbrella table. A great way to unwind after a couple hours of painting.

A friend and I have been talking for almost a year now about her dairy goats. Yesterday our discussions were mostly productive and so I am praying things work out there.

We got some gardening done, but no veg planted, as we ran into some issues in the garden Saturday.... chunks of cement 8 inches down. :barnie

Last week I got 15 pounds of carrots from a friend. I think she is cleaning out her root cellar... Anyway, I finally got some carrot slices into the dehydrator yesterday and will do more this week.

The landlords called yesterday to say someone (the township or village, they somehow don't know who they called) is coming to look at the 3 foot deep sink hole in the drive. They said the workers would be at our place by 6:30 am!!! I will believe it when I see it....

The portion of the drive that is useable is only wide enough for the Saturn to just squeeze in. So it will be nice to have the driveway fixed :fl

This evening TR removed the fence posts, but left the log in the hole and the caution tape is still up. At least that way no one will try to pull into the drive to turn around during the night. As he removed the posts, a swarm of mosquitos flew up at him. Naturally, being filled with water from the drainage ditch, it is a mosquito breeding area. Another reason for it to be gone quickly.

TR works next week-end and has the American Cancer Society RELAY FOR LIFE. We are already commited to be ENCOUNTER hosts at church on Father's Day Sunday. So today TR and I had an early Father's Day outing.

We drove to Chagrin Falls bright and early this morning. It is one of our favorite places to visit, and when kel and jon were growing up, we spent many a fun-filled happy day there, imo.

We started the day at Parkside Church. Between church services and classes and the commons cafe and bookshop, I could spend an entire day at Parkside alone.

You can watch Parkside's Sunday services through the link on the right side of their home page. If you check out the service ... the tall guy in the blue shirt on the left corner is TR. I think mostly you just see the back of his head. We moved so someone could get back into the pew and you can see TR's face. :D Occasionally, you can see the back of the short person next to him....when we are standing for worship. :)

After church we drove over to Chagrin Falls village. It was a beautiful day for walking alongside the river, people watching in the park, seeing the ducks and geese, and just enjoying the gorgeous day. The village was pretty crowded with visitors because of the beautiful weather. Lots of expensive motorcycles in town today. :) The water on the upper falls and main falls looks pretty good, and we got some wonderful pictures.

We walked past the upper falls from where we parked going into the village center.

The Farmers' Market was being held in the town triangle today, so TR and I walked the aisle and sampled some of the vendor's wares.

A couple of the vendors are known to us, as they are local to us in Ashtabula County. There was one organic greens stand, as well as a local goat cheese vendor. Their 2010 1st place award winner, the cognac and fig, was my favorite of the samples they had; very smooth and good enough to be dessert! :D There were several vendors with organic pasture-raised beef, chicken, eggs, and pork. The pots of beautiful veg plants and herbs came in all sizes and prices.

TR and I spent about 20 minutes talking bees at the Ohio Honey Co. tent, mostly about bee losses earlier this spring. Although we didn't know them then, when we lived in Kirtland, we were practically neighbors.

After that, we had lunch at Fresh Start Diner which is in the spot where Dink's Restaurant used to be. TR had a cheese omelet, and I had the Greek Omelet; and it was terrric!, and packed with spinach, black olives, onions, tomato and feta cheese. :drool

We went into the Popcorn Shop but didn't get any pictures of it today.
ETA: It is a well-known landmark. Their link giving the history. http://www.chagrinfallspopcorn.com/history.html

We always manage to stop in The Fireside Book Shop, where a collection of old and new books are available, including many local authors. http://www.firesidebookshop.com/

Chagrin Hardware, in business since 1857, is always a favorite stop; selling antiques, cleaning and canning supplies, as well as hardware. Fels Naptha soap here is $1.29 a bar, Uncle Earl's Orange Zest, Lavender, or Lemon Zest soap is $4.25 a bar. :D We didn't buy anything, but this shop is a great browse!

A couple shots of The Village Herb Shop, although we didn't visit today, we were parked near the shop.

We didn't get to many of the places we would stop by while in Chagrin Falls. TR was wearing his church shoes and was really about done with walking. Probably one reason why we didn't go up all those steps at the herb shop. :)

During the drive home we saw many farmers out working. Probably glad of being able to, as well. Tilling, planting and haying seemed to be the activities of the day. We were feeling a touch lazy. :)

We stopped in Orwell at the A&W and each got a freeze - a root beer float mixed up. It is the only time I drink soda....probably more for the memories than anything else.....and it was good!

I don't know how having so much fun can be so exhausting! But we came home and fell asleep while reading; a power nap, I guess.

We had leftover stroganoff for dinner; and a quiet evening at home. It was wonderful. ;)

Hope everyone had a great week-end as well.

That sounds like a perfect day! And I'm drooling over the thought of cognac fig cheese, and mourning the loss of my fig tree last year...

framing fowl that is awful!

I remember I was pretty upset when we lost our fig (in Texas) due to a combination of fire ants nest and a tornado. It was a young tree, just realizing its potential.

Will you replant?

I haven't this year, too much going on. I think I will just wait on anything other than regular garden plants until we know exactly what the school/moving situation is.

I'd actually never tasted a fig in my life until I harvested off of that tree. :hit

Sounds like a perfect Sunday :)

Love the photos too--I don't know anything about Ohio except where it is on a map, that it's the Buckeye state, and a few of the city names.

Thanks, moolie and Farmfresh! I am glad TR got the camera working in time for our day trip, but I did not take enough photos.

Well, not quite 6:30am...but the backhoe did arrive at 6:45am! My mailbox is leaning against the large old maple in the front yard now.

I agree Farmer Jamie! Not that there aren't wonderful places everywhere, but there ARE some wonderful places in Ohio. :)

ETA: btw the goat cheese vendor at the Farmers' Market yesterday is local to you
