Well, brahma mama had 16 eggs, one still hasn't done anything and two babies died inside the shell while hatching. So total, I have 13 baby ducks this morning!!! I have 4 definite chocolates and the others are either black or mixed, can't tell yet. All I know is they are CUTEY-PATOOTEY!!!
I moved them from the quail hutch where I had separated brahma mama from the other hens to the big tractor where we raised the broilers last year. They are all in a wash tub turned on it's side and all seem to be doing well this morning. I have one that seems to have a sticky eye but is otherwise fine. They are all digging around under mama and she is happy to have some grass to eat and a little room to spread out. We had a lot of rain last night (thank God, we needed it) and they stayed pretty dry.
My parents were supposed to come up this weekend but daddy called last night and said they were going to stay home and work on VBS stuff, they are doing all the decorations for an Egypt theme and mama has him making three dimensional props. That woman does not know when to quit.
Chad is going to go by the farm today and put a railing on the back deck and do the fireplace surround and then this weekend we'll go and clean up everything for the final inspection on Monday. HVAC is supposed to be done Sunday and the well pump is done but still hasn't been turned on yet.
Chad wants to get mulch put down this weekend and get some of my monkey grass transplanted over there. Supposed to be 99 degrees Saturday and Sunday. Pray I don't melt
Hubby called Cornerstone Farm and told her that we can't take the goats right now and bless her heart she was very understanding and even offered to send us back our deposit. Chad told her to keep it for all her trouble. Maybe next year we'll be able to get some from her.
I just want to stare at them....mama is teaching them well, they were nibbling greens and eating and drinking well this morning although I did have one get out of the pen somehow :/
I found it trying desperately to get back in to mama when I went out to feed and water everyone this morning. I got it back in and all is well. Still can't figure out where it got out, I made sure all the wire was bent under (we pulled some loose when we moved the tractor) and that is probably where it squeezed out.
They were so cute this morning...my dog Maggie wants to have them for her own. She keeps following me into the pen and laying down when I change the waterer. She was "mama" to our last batch and stayed with them out on the porch while they were in the brooder to keep the critters away. Now she seems to remember and wants these for her own too She licked one yesterday. So adorable.
We got a major score this morning....hubby is going to get the mulch for the front of the house and went to go borrow our neighbor's big tiller (we only have a 2 tine) and he was cleaning out his shed and getting rid of some stuff he got from a friend of his when he got evicted. He was going to throw away all his camping gear. We got 3 of the heavy duty backpack frames with the backpacks (they are like $200 new each), all of his camping dishes, coffee pot, 3 pyrex dishes, 2 safety kits, and lots of other stuff in a big rubbermaid tub. There's probably a good $8-900 worth of stuff that he was going to haul to the dump and it is in excellent condition, he just didn't want to deal with it anymore.
My BF's husband is a troop leader for the boy scouts so we may see if there is anything that he wants. I will probably give the pyrex dishes to my MIL cause she needs them....we may keep one of the backpacks and put the other two on craigslist but we will probably keep the camping dishes for the kids. So excited! Hubby was beside himself and kept saying "Lori, really, you HAVE to come look at all this stuff!"
Our AC should be hooked up today and the water was turned on yesterday evening. Hubby finished the fireplace surround and mantle yesterday and it looks great but still needs to be painted so I will probably tackle that tomorrow in addition to transplanting the monkey grass and cleaning the house. I think we will have our final inspection Monday and hopefully my grandparents can come get the kids for the week and we can get everything moved if all goes well.
Making pancakes and then off to the farm to wait for the inspector. Final inspection is scheduled for this morning....
Then off to the park, the local library is kicking off it's summer reading program with a water day out on the soccer field. Don't know what all they'll have but we're gonna go check it out this afternoon.
Gonna be a hot one, glad we have our ac unit hooked up now....got it set on 77 and man, does it feel better in there. No more sweat dripping off my forhead. We also got all the ceiling fans put up in all the bedrooms last night and they really look good! Ours has a remote that has a dimmer switch on it for the light....hubby is really having fun playing with it.
We cleaned up quite a bit yesterday to get everything ready for the move. Hopefully all will go well and I will be packing stuff up this week. Granny and papa are supposed to come get the kids Wednesday and take them to their house for the rest of the week and that will help.
