I'm workin' on it Pam! Maddie helped me set the table last night! She loves to get in the drawers so I figured I'd make the most of it and she got all the silverware last night! She was so cute...

Told my granny when she called this morning that I had gone through all the toys and put a bunch in the attic to sell and that I thought all of Maddie's problems were stemming from the fact that she is spoiled rotten and that I am a softy. NO MORE MR NICE GUY!

When we went to the store the other day I did not give in and get them anything!

Oh, and I just got a phone call from a gentleman that wants to come look at my 1972 super beetle for sale!!!!! :fl

hey lori

you'll find a good system that works for ya.

I have had it with toy spending and other things also. Everyone gives Nicole everything. I stopped it---yes I did...LOL

I thought, no kid should have this much junk...she doesn't need it.
second, some of that toy money needs to be banked, I figure since me and her hit retirement and college at the same time, lol, I better have money for her education..and alot of it I am sure in 15 years! third, I want values on her, not just give me, give me attitude.

she gets money for working the barn with Tony and me. Well, not money, she gets a popsicle, or popcorn made at night with a movie...but she gets "paid" something. I don't bride for household chores.

She helped me fold laundry....yea took about 1 hr. longer than it should...HA HA...and she said, I worked, now I want some candy. I said, no....this is not work...this is family chores we do together. Work is making money for the household to function, like working at the barn with me and Daddy. So now I am trying to show the difference between work and household......she'll figure it out..LOL

I have no problems wtih her. She doesn't fight at all. She pouts and then gives in real fast.....I like that..HA HA

I told MIL and FIL to stop buying...simple as that. I told MIL I want to control what she gets. MIL has no problems wtih it. My parents don't overbuy at all. They see she doesn't need it at all. Mom just puts some money in a CD for her. Sounds good to me..LOL

you will find your balance. don't panic. remember, she is used to having things, it will be a bit to put some new practices in place.
you hang in there..........I had fun rambling about this stuff!

Today the temps were in the high teens/low twentys today. Had to go out and change out all the waterers for all our animals (dogs, cats, rabbits, and chickens) 3 times today. I still got 3 eggs today! Gave the chickens some scratch this morning and evening and put more leaves in the run for them to snuggle in. They seemed okay when I went out to put them up for the night.

Chad is packing sleeping bags for tomorrow's hunt. They have an 11 yr old going on his first hunt tomorrow and I made all of them banana nut bread. Let the kid's have one of the mini loaves and Tyler proclaimed that he loooooved banana nut bread!

Had to put Maddie in the time out crib a few times today. She wanted to change her clothes...wanted her princess pjs at 3 in the afternoon. I agreed to let her wear them after her bath later and she threw herself down on the ground and started screaming. I told her to put her jammies back in the drawer or time out. You can guess what happened next... :D

Made brownies yesterday with veggie deer soup. It was good yesterday but really good today! The kids loved helping me and loved licking the beaters!

Thanks....had a talk with Chad last night and we agreed that some things need to change.

The kids are really into Disney right now so I am thinking that I may just make my mom, granny, and MIL a short list of movies that they could get the kids for their birthdays in Feb and Mar.

I also am thinking about getting into my mom's shed and reclaiming my old care bears and barbies. Tyler and Maddie both sleep with one of my old care bears and they love them dearly. I don't have to shop!!!

Ha Ha Ha. Very funny Dac! I made the brownies to go with the veggie deer soup. You notice too much! :D

Well, today Chad ended up being gone till dark. Tomorrow we'll be catching up on lots of projects around the house. Got to get on the roof and go under the house to check on our air vents. We have virtually no air coming out of our living room vent. We don't know what's up with that. It is nice and warm everywhere else in the house, even with the thermostat turned down to 66 it is still warm everywhere but in the living room. I stuck my hand down as far as I could to see if maybe the kids had dropped some stuff down the vent...the cover is pretty easy to get off. I didn't feel anything but a few crumbs, cheerios, little stuff. Hopefully we'll be able to fix whatever is wrong with it. We also have to go to the dump/recycling center tomorrow too. Everything is piling up, Chad was going to go last weekend but they were closed by the time he was able to load everything up and get there.

It was really cold again today...in the lower 20s most of the day and into the teens tonight. Buddy, our little banty roo, had a few spots on his comb and waddle this morning but seemed none the worse for wear. They all got lots of treats today...warm oatmeal mixed with some leftover wild rice, half a baked potato, and an egg that I didn't get in time this morning (scrambled with the crushed shell). They loved me today!

Had to bust ice a few times today in the waterers. Caught them this afternoon before they were completely frozen so that made them easier to deal with.

Chad let me take a nice long bath and read my book this evening when we got done with dinner. I have started the Clan of the Cave Bear series. I like it so far. It was nice to get a little time to myself. Froze the remainder of the soup I made and popped in a frozen pizza, made some corn on the cob, and a salad for dinner. Peeled some oranges for dessert. We have gotten on an orange kick lately...Maddie keeps bringing them to me and saying "peel it Mommy, peel it!"

Oh! I almost forgot...I got a seed catalog today!!! Southern Exposure Seed Exchange...they specialize in plants that have proved to do well in our region. I am excited but a little overwhelmed...I am thinking of trying the sq ft method but I still don't know what to plant yet.

I know I want peppers, cukes, canning tomatoes, salad lettuces, spinach, broccoli, I would love some green beans but I don't know what kind to get. I want some that freeze well...I really like the long bright green ones like I get in the grocery store but I don't know what kind they are. My aunt let me come pick some from her garden last year but they were bush beans and they were just not good.

I would love to have some berries too...my kids love strawberries and blueberries, we don't have to plant blackberries, they grow wild all the way down our road so we get plenty every year. Have to deal with the thorns and the chiggers but oh, well!

Edited for spelling

Sunday

Chad got up on the roof today and cleaned out the gutters. Yuck...we couldn't believe what came out of those suckers! We only have one tree in the immediate area near the house but it was amazing at the junk that was in there.

He also got under the house to check out our ducts cause we aren't getting any air out of the living room vent. Well, the duct had come completely apart and it was like 70 degrees under the house in the crawlspace! That's warmer than our house inside! He hooked it back up and made sure it was secure and all was well. Thankful that it wasn't something serious. No telling what my electric bill will be though!

I am wondering if all the sickness we experienced was due to peanut butter. All this talk of salmonella got me thinking and I was the only one in the house that didn't eat peanut butter that week and I was the only one that didn't get sick. The night before Mama and Granny got sick they both ate peanut butter from the same jar. I threw it out just in case.

It just goes to show that you never know what you'll get when you eat processed foods. Scary stuff!
