Glad we could help Morel!

Well, we had a wonderful weekend! Saturday we went to Eppington house one county over and the children really had a good time. We did too. We got to learn about the revolutionary war in our area, learn about Thomas jefferson and his family, learn about burial practices, children's games and toys, tour the historic home, make hand dipped beeswax candles, take a carriage ride driven by two beautiful horses (Morgan crosses), and ride in a hot air balloon!

Best part was, it was FREE!!! Although we did spend $20 on lunch for the four of us. My kids are asking for all of the children's toys for xmas! It was great!

Then Sunday Chad's mom came up to visit....she had a date Saturday night. We spent a wonderful day playing with the chickens, rabbits, and feeding our uncles cows.

His mom just kept telling us how proud of us she is....she's the one that got us started with all of this you know, two little roosters and it has all snowballed into this!

Oh, and I forgot, today I am cooking up a big batch of our chickens to make homemade chicken salad. I also found pork tenderloins on sale for 50% off so I got two huge ones for less than $20 yesterday and came home and sliced them up and froze them. I got 7 meals out of the two of them!!!

Oh, and we got 6 blackberry bushes planted yesterday too! We bought 3 thornless and dug up 3 with thorns from the back of our property and transplanted them. We planted them on the other side of the cherry trees. We also picked out a few trees to transplant to the edge of the pasture and marked them so we could move them once the leaves drop. We also picked out where we want to locate the bee hives!!! :celebrate

Hubby got a deer last night! Bad news is that he thought it was a small doe and it turned out to be a button buck :(

Oh well, too late now. We think we might make some jerky out of it. I made deer fajitas last night and they were YUMMY!

Maddie wet the bed last night so it's laundry day again! Sheets and towels. Joy of joys....story of my life.

Our cousin brought us 5 HUGE bags of white oak acorns last night to put out for the deer and we are planning on tilling up some of the field on the edges and planting some food plots. I may need to go get some wheat/rye mix. We have a clover/chicory mix that we may plant too.

Hubby wants me to hunt in his stand cause he says he saw a pile of does right before dark. I can't wait for gun season!

Sorry, but what is a button buck???

Can you just kill anything you want on your own property?

Just wondering.

Loved the pictures, thanks for sharing.

A button buck is a first year buck with little nubs for antlers....like buttons, you can't really see them till you get up close. It was very small, he was actually pretty ticked off about it. He just got excited and shot. We are trying to thin out some of the does on the property and yes, since we hunt on our own land we pretty much kill what we want. We try to let the bucks walk unless they look like a moose and then we shoot

The last few years we have really been trying to leave the bucks and take more does to balance things out a bit.
