When I saw your title "Troublemaker" I thought for sure you were talking about me ... but I haven't rolled in a cow pattie LATELY, so it couldn't have been me LOL.
So tell me more about planting a pineapple top? I did not know you could do that. I actually have a fresh pineapple to cut today. Anything special I should do???
As far as I know you cut off the top and plant it in potting soil up to the leaves....it should sprout and you should have another pineapple in about a year or so....thought it would be fun for the kids...but you definitely need to keep it in the house in colder weather.
They did a special on planting them on the local news last month and I thought I'd give it a whirl.
My dirt is here! My dirt is here! My dirt is here!
My husband is insane cause he ordered 10 YARDS of topsoil/compost mix. I have filled up the strawberry bed about 2/3s of the way and two more 4x4 beds 2/3s and then one big ol wheelbarrow load full in the other 6. The kids were hollering for lunch (our goddaughter is staying with us for the weekend) and my blisters were killing me so I'm done with it for the day. I won't be able to move for 2 days but it is in there.
For anyone that is starting a raised bed from scratch, I'll share my secret to keeping out weeds from the start with you. Get some cardboard moving boxes....or any that don't have a lot of ink on them. My husband manages a warehouse so we got ours from there. Cut them so that you have pieces overlapped to cover the bottom and then put the bed on all the edges so that all the grass is completely covered and then fill your beds with dirt. Voila, no weeds and eventually it will compost itself.
We are supposed to be getting gravel in the driveway today too but I haven't seen anyone yet.
Chad is next door at Aunt and Uncle's house helping cut down an old Hickory tree that is dropping limbs on the garage and threatening to fall on the house.
No problem-o.....here's the link to Matthew's journal page where I posted pics and measurements. My other recommendation is to drill holes at the base on the other end so you have a rope to pull it either direction. You can also add 2x2's across the open side to attach the hardwire cloth or chicken wire to for added security.
