I have never had any luck trellis gardening with pumpkins. But I didn't start with a very secure trellis, since it was just an experiment. The pumpkins grew well (hanging in pantyhose from the trellis) but were too heavy for the trellis.

When the kids were young, we did pole of beans in a tepee. Plant your shade loving greens under them - Swiss chard, spinach....

I googled vertical planting last night and I might try some of the pumpkins but I am definitely doing the beans and probably the tomatoes, instead of cages, and cukes. I can't wait to get everything in the ground. We started building the gate last night and everybody and their brother showed up at my house all at once and then it started to rain. My neighbor is buying a suburban that belongs to one of my husband's friends that has been sitting in our driveway for the last year since it died. More power to him, I will be glad to get it out of our driveway.

I have a dentist appt this afternoon and then have to go to the grocery store, the cupboards are bare. It has been raining off and on all day and we are still waiting on the mulch delivery. I also gave my neighbor a dozen eggs last night and he had about 50/50 green and brown and he looked at me and said, "Well, you're all set for easter aren't you?" I laughed. Tim got mad at my hubby cause he went and bought lumber for the fenceposts, turns out he had some laying around the house that he would have given us :barnie His wife Kim wants chickens some kinda bad so I keep feeding her obsession with fresh eggs! We have a swap meet/farm day at the local feed store on the 18th and I can't wait! I want to see all the chickens and goats and stuff and you just know I'm coming home with something!

Rain rain and more rain. My backyard looks like a swamp! My poor hens are soaked. Got a call from a local mom and pop grocery store/feed and farm supply/hardware store/barber shop and they want to buy my eggs for the store! I have to go get more laying hens! :weee We are thinking about getting 15 or 20 more hens as soon as we can get another coop and run built but we will let them free range too. We are planning on keeping them separate from our other hens but we'll see what happens.

We finally got our mulch!!! $200 for a dump truck load...I didn't think that was too bad and our neighbor went in half with us so we only spent $100 and that will do around the coop/run and the flower beds and the raised beds.

One of my friends is supposed to be coming over for a play date and then we are off to granny's house for the weekend so we can take back papa's trailer. His tractor pulls are starting up again and he needs it to haul the tractor.

My mom was one of the grand marshalls in the Martinsville race last weekend. She got to meet Trace Adkins and ride around the track and lots of other cool stuff. We are from Martinsville and my folks still live near there.

Oh, there's Favi and the kids...time to play!

Well, all the pieces are cut out for the quilt top. Now I just have to finish mulching and helping DH get the new dog run put up. We went to Home Depot yesterday and got some castors so that I can make a compost bin (thank you Skr8pn) and we got another roll of fencing for the dog run, a battery and fuel filter for out lawn mower (our grass is going to eat us!), and looked at sheds and priced materials for building our own from scratch. We want to get more chickens and we figure that we may as well build a big shed type coop but I think we are going to wait on it for a little while. Too much money right now. I am going to look and see if I can find some materials to recycle for it.

Got up early this morning and decided to get some more mulching done while Tyler was still asleep. I'm having some trouble with the atv and doing laundry as well so I have to see if I can fix the atv so I can finish the mulch before having to go to the library and TSC this evening before Chad gets home so I can help him put up the new fencing. I hope that the weather holds out and I can get the grass mowed tomorrow and hubby will bring home the barrel for the compost bin and then the grass clippings can go in there too. Still have to get a load of soil for the gardens and I want to build 2 more smaller beds today too. Busy busy busy!

Oh, and my daughter decided that she wanted to stay with Granny again this week so we are going to go back up there for easter to get her and the church is having a party for the children on Saturday too so that should be fun. Well, just checking in, off to hang laundry and mulch mulch mulch! Have a good day everyone!

Well, woke up this morning with a raging head cold, probably from inhaling all the dirt from the mulch yesterday but it is done! If I never see another load of mulch for a year it will be too soon.

Got up and did 3 more loads of laundry, they are drying on the line as we speak. Chad tried to fix the lawnmower yesterday after he fixed the atv but it still won't start. So, we are going to load it up to take to the shop this evening and then tomorrow Chad is going to pick up a load of topsoil/compost mix (for $28) and we can fill the beds!!! So excited!

My chicken coop looks so much better and we even put some mulch around the HVAC unit outside cause the chickens decided to use that space behind it to dust bathe . Hopefully they will stay out of the mulch cause they were throwing dust and dirt all in the unit. I was even thinking of planting something back there now cause it looks so good. I may separate some of the monkey grass in the front yard and replant it back there. Not today, though cause I am beat. I hurt all over. Fibromyalgia and shoveling mulch do not mix!

I also got about a dozen quilt blocks put together this morning! I haven't done anything with my machine but a straight stitch but I am getting the hang of it. Hopefully I can get the blocks done tonight and then get the top put together tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.

I brought home 2 of the books from the Foxfire series and Chad is fascinated! He was laughing at some of the pictures and all he could do was shake his head and say "this is great!"

We also got our taxes back from the accountant and they are in the mail today. It cost us $95 but we are getting back $3800 and he found some deductions that I know I wouldn't have caught on my own. The good thing is that that will pay off our major credit card!!! So all we'll have left to pay on is my sewing machine and a couple hundred dollars at Home Depot. I feel like I can breathe now.

Sorry about your pain:(

Once you get those cards paid off, your mind will have more space for more positive things, like, getting goats!!!

Now that you got the mulching done at your place, wanna can a fellow SS friend out and come help me with mine?
