About vertical growing--when I lived in the city I had a very small garden plot. to use my space efficiently, I grew my cukes, zuchinis, canteloupes and watermelons up the fence. We had a typical privacy fence, I hung extra chainlink on it and trained all the aforementioned plants to grow up it., Worked wonderfully!

My chicken coop looks so much better and we even put some mulch around the HVAC unit outside cause the chickens decided to use that space behind it to dust bathe . Hopefully they will stay out of the mulch cause they were throwing dust and dirt all in the unit.
Good luck with the mulch around the HVAC unit. You may find you have to fence that area off.... :D

Sure sounds like you have been busy! Don't forget to post a pic of your new quilt when you're ready!

Well, I got all of the squares done for the quilt but now I can't decide whether to leave them as is or put some sort of lattice in between the blocks. I am getting ready to leave for granny's but I'll post a pic and let you all see my dilemma.

Got the teepees done and 2 more raised beds done for the beans. Got the gate finished on the garden fence, got the 4x4 posts put in for the dog run, and cleaned out the chicken coop and nesting boxes this morning. I also had to rake up all the grass clippings from the front yard and put them in our compost pile. I got the castors for the compost bin but we still have to find a barrel.

I did a bunch of index cards for the kids last night and this morning. I went through a bunch of my mom's old better homes and gardens magazines and cut out pictures and glued them onto the index cards and then wrote the word under the picture. Tyler copied 7 of the words this morning! He has just started writing his letters and I am so proud! I also made a weather board and a feelings board. Now to get Maddie involved......whew.

Well, off to granny's house!

Well, got back from Granny's late last night and got an early start cleaning the house, doing laundry, and I am trying to bake egg bread. We also have someone coming tonight to look at my husband's truck that we are trying to sell and we have friends coming to dinner tonight. We are getting the load of soil/compost for the garden tonight too. Hopefully the rain will hold off long enough for my hubby's friend to help him get the dog run finished. It is supposed to rain starting later tonight and all day tomorrow but it is supposed to be sunny and in the 70s for this weekend.

We also went and walked the property that granny and papa are supposed to close on tomorrow night. I have mixed feelings about it. It is rolling, everywhere. There isn't a flat spot on it anywhere. Granny doesn't really like it but papa does and she is just not willing to fight over it even though it is her money that's buying it. I don't know what to do. My mom is picking out everything for the house and keeps changing everything that my granny has picked out. She is fed up with the whole thing and doesn't want to do any of it now. I can't say I blame her. Chad and I are of the opinion that she needs to speak up before it is too late but she just doesn't want to fight over it with anyone anymore. I don't know what to do.

It is sad that so many elder folk are treated this way, like they have no opinions anymore...everyone else makes the plans for them...I think maybe you will have to speak up for granny and make sure she gets some of what SHE wants out of this move.

I know what you mean, my mom is a total control freak. She wants everything her way and everyone else is just wrong, period, end of story. I didn't speak to her for years when I graduated college for just that reason. I had to do my own thing and that wasn't what she wanted me to do. Hurt her feelings but she needed to understand that I have a brain and I have an opinion that matters.

Chad and I are just at a loss with this whole situation. Granny just doesn't want to fight with anyone anymore. If the truth be known, she would rather move her doublewide that she lives in now instead of building a new house but papa is scared that they will tear the house up too much when they go to move it. He also wants to build a house that is handicapped accessible for her because she has degenerative disc disease and doctors fear that she will be unable to walk in the next 5 years. That, I agree with. The doublewide doesn't have enough room in the doorways and hallways to facilitate using a wheelchair or electric scooter-type thing.

We tried all weekend to get her to say something but she just doesn't want to ruffle any feathers.

Tuesday

My husband ate the entire loaf of bread I made yesterday! I had to make another loaf today!

I'm glad, though, it means I don't have to buy the store bought junk anymore! The kids like it too so it is totally worth it to me.

I got the napkins done today...I got a flannel sheet set from goodwill last week and I got 57 napkins from just the twin flat sheet. I saved the fitted sheet and pillowcase to use for something else. I figure I have $4-5 in the napkins and they are so soft. Here's a pic.

It has been rainy all day and the kids and I have done art projects and played "school" this morning. This afternoon they watched a movie while I sewed the napkins. I also pressed all the quilt squares that I had finished sewing the other day and I still can't decide whether to add black lattice pieces or keep the squares together. I am going to post the pics on a thread in another place and let everyone vote on it cause I can't decide. :p
