Well, my husband is officially going to kill me.

We agreed on 15 meat chickens but Meyer's had a deal of 30 broilers for 36.90 FREE SHIPPING!!!

They'll be here wednesday or thursday.

Our 8th wedding anniversary is tomorrow and my husband is getting me fence posts!!!! Enough free fence posts from the yard at his work to do a 40' x 100' goat pen!!!!!

There's no way we can actually get the goats until next spring but we can get to work on the fence now!!!

I just want to get 3 or 4 nigerian dwarf females. Hopefully I can dive headfirst into the wonderful world of goat milking and soapmaking!!!

Oh, and while we were outside measuring for the fence my son caught ANOTHER fence lizard.

We've only butchered a few birds before but we plan on skinning them and freezing the parts in batches (breasts, legs, etc). My kids like the drumsticks and we like the breasts and I will have all the lovely bones for some chicken stock. I figure if we do 4-5 a day it shouldn't be too bad.

I'm excited.

Gotta get the baby pool back out for the brooder pen....good thing the kids cleaned up the front porch!!!

I'd raise my own chickens to eat if I could find some one to clean them. So for now, I will keep on purchasing my chicken meat from a local farmer.

Beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing them. You crack me up.. I asked for fencing too as an anniversary gift. I might just need to go get what I want and then act all innocent and ask for help with installation.

I watched a YouTube video of someone skinning a chicken. It made it seem so easy. It's the rest that gets me. (barfing smiley)

Please pray for my brother, he is flooded in at work in Atlanta. He says his house is fine but that the reservoir that supplies their water has risen 2 feet in the last couple of days but technically, according to the water levels there, they are still in a drought. How is that for ironic???

Today is my 8th wedding anniversary. To be honest, I didn't know if we would make it this long....we've had some rocky times over the years. Just for fun I thought I would take a picture of one of the pictures from our wedding album...it's a little fuzzy but still okay.
