I tried one of those heated water bowls but it didn't hold enough water and what little there was got terribly filthy in nothing flat. At least with the bucket, the muck that does get in it sinks to the bottom and the chickens still have clean water above. I still have to empty and clean it every two days or so, but then, it's my own fault. I have a wall in the coop that will one day separate the entrance/feed area from the chickens but it's only half finished and the chickens like to roost on it. The water bucket has to be right below it to allow for the cord. What a mess! I really need to get that wall finished so the critters can't sit on it anymore.

Yeah, my coop is too small to allow for a waterer inside so it is in the run. I am hoping to have a proper barn soon and we'll definitely have electricity so it will be much easier!

Tried to go to the library this morning and they were closed. Today and tomorrow. Killing me.

Got back home for lunch and my dog Maggie had a mild seizure. I've never see her have one but I had seen my granny's old dog have one so I knew what it was. Freaked the kids out more than it did me. Thankfully there was no foaming or peeing or pooping on herself. She just tightened up all over, locked her jaw and extended her head, her feet curled up and she got a kind of glazed look to her eyes. She was a bit wobbly when she got up but she seems fine now. Vet doesn't want to see her as this was very mild and the first one we have seen so she said to just watch her and document any more that we see.

Gonna have breakfast for dinner tonight, bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits.....mmmmmmmm! Ring in the new year with a healthy breakfast, huh? Big ol' pot of fresh coffee, man I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

The weather wasn't so bad.....everything was pretty much done by the time we got up at 7:30 this morning. There was a solid sheet of ice on everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING this morning. I skated to the duck pen from the house. Even with the rubber boots it was still an adventure!

Well, gonna go eat some cranberry salad and get the kids down for a nap!

She's a chocolate lab, she seems to be doing fine today.

Spent last night snuggling with Maggie. I spent the new year reading a book, go figure. One of my son's reference books, How Come? It gives scientific answers to questions like Why is the sky blue? What causes rainbows? Why do giraffes have long necks? Why do stars twinkle? Its a pretty interesting book. I like it cause it doesn't dumb down the answers.

Chad had a client to take hunting this morning so when he gets home this afternoon I'm going to get ready and go deer hunting this evening (and probably freeze my patootie off in the process!)

It's really foggy here but a little warmer this morning, I didn't have to chip ice!!! Cleaned out the coop and the rabbit hutch but need a new tire for the wheel barrow, it's flat. Don't know when we are supposed to see my FIL about the land but if he doesn't call us by tomorrow I'm gonna show up at his house Sunday.

Granny is frustrated with the house construction. Apparantly one of the walls in the master bath has warped and has to be completely ripped out and redone before they can do the tile work. Once the tile is done in the house it will pretty much be done and ready to move in once the final inspections are done. She's getting anxious.

Taking it easy and the kids are watching a new Dora the Explorer movie. We turned the tv off last night and did a project with the kids and did some workbooks with them after dinner. Then we used some homemade picture flash cards and spread them all over the floor and played "I spy". I used index cards and cut out old magazine pictures and glued them to the index card and then printed the word for the picture under it and made my own flash cards. Helps them learn letter sounds, recognize letters, work on adjectives, lots of things. We also use them to group similar items together and then make charts.

We had a nice relaxing evening. One of the cable channels was having a marathon of America's Funniest Home Videos so we watched that for a while. Chad fell asleep early and Tyler crawled in the bed with him so I just slept in his bed. I can't lift him anymore and Chad was out of it so I left him. They were cute, Chad and Tyler with Tonka slam in the middle of them in our bed all rolled over on his back with his legs in the air. :p

Well, I am irritated this morning. I went hunting yesterday and shot a doe. I was certain I hit her but it was a really long shot. We looked for a while in the rain but when everything is wet it is really hard to find blood. We looked for about 2 hours and couldn't find her. Chad is in the woods this morning and I am going with a girlfriend this evening again and I am hoping that we can get at least one doe. I would like to put up some more ground meat for the year. I would love to make some more jerky and some sausage too but we would need 2 deer for that. We'll see what happens. Either way I am going to freeze my patootie off today! It is in the 20s and windy but clear. Gonna be interesting!

Do you have any idea what caused her seizure? I didn't think that was a problem with Labs. Perhaps she ate something that she shouldn't have.
