Girl, you are some kind of hunter! :D Hope you got your doe in the fridge!

Sometimes when it's cold like this, those wounds seal up pretty quickly and they bleed out internally.....hope you find her.

Sunday....well, didn't see a daggone thing in the woods but did freeze my patootie off! My wonderful husband had a foot bath and a fresh pot of coffee waiting for me when I got home. No, didn't find the other doe either. It is cold here today. Had to go to TSC for some things this morning but have been hunkered down here since doing laundry. Boring day.

Lori come on over at our place,...we have a pile of deer just wandering around in the backyard. :frow There is one,..she is a huge ole doe. Thinking real hard about putting her in the freezer with the other two we got. Liking that ground deer meat,..this is my first year grinding the meat and it is GOOD! :drool

We have been freezing our meat OFG, I am a freezer junkie. I am not a big canner. I think it's a texture thing. About 90% of the veggies we eat are either fresh or frozen. One of my kids' favorite snacks is frozen blueberries. I have thought of freezing grapes for them too.

I usually see some deer around my house but haven't seen many this year, UPC. They cleared off a lot of the woods across the road from me and built a house. To add insult to injury, the night we couldn't find my doe we went to drive off the property and there were 6 does standing up by the road on our property. I begged my hubby to let me pop one just for spite!

Monday
Today, I am finishing up the last load of laundry and baking bread. We had toast with pumpkin butter and clementines for breakfast. I love those little oranges! They are so easy to peel and the kids just love that they are small. Just their size.

Got online last night for a while and looked up some books from the library that I want to check out. I am also looking for some stuff to buy from Barnes and Noble. I got a $50 gift card for xmas and it is killing me. I am thinking of getting a vegetable cookbook. I found a really good one but I want to check it out in the store before I buy it. I want to incorporate more and different veggies into our diet but I am in a rut. I usually just steam our veggies and don't put anything on them so I want to spice things up but need ideas. I would love to expand my garden to include more herbs and veggies but I don't know what to do with them. Seems like everytime I plant herbs I end up not doing anything with them.

Anyone got any good ideas for books? :D

"Gardener's Community Cookbook" is a winner if you ask me. LOTS of great veggie recipes and some growing hints as well.

Black and Decker series "Advanced Wiring", "Advanced Plumbing" .....etc. REALLY good pics and lots of info.

I second that. I bought the book for myself last fall. I had borrowed it many years ago. Carla Emery's style is also fun to read.
It has everything you could need to live off the land, including lots of recipes.

Well, let's see, today is Tuesday and my son is bugging me for the computer. I want to take a nap so I am going to be brief. It is freaking cold. I am making 2 pots of chicken and vegetable soup for dinner tonight and to take to FIL's house tomorrow to hopefully get our land. I am rotating waterers, I have some in the house thawing out from last night and new ones outside for the bunnies, quail and rabbits. Picked up some timothy hay for the bunnies and they are very appreciative! The rest of the gang is getting xmas leftovers for treats--yesterday was deviled eggs and stuffing and today was coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. They love me again despite the cold! Tomorrow, baked beans and mashed potatoes and then the fridge is empty again. I can only eat so many leftovers. Still thinking about books.....got a dr. appt tonight and I may run down to barnes and noble and look around but I'll see how late things run with the doc.
