WOW.

I wanted to get some guineas but hubby won't allow it....too noisy. I'd do it just to piss off my neighbor(BIL) and his prissy a** wife.

Our first chickens were little japanese bantam roos....they were too cute and fiesty! I miss those little birds!
That was the first time I've ever met my next door neighbor and he didn't introduce himself or anything. Didn't even say hi, didn't get out of his van, he just opened the door and said "young lady, keep your guineas out of my yard". I was so shocked that I couldn't think of anything to say but "ok". I wish I couldn've thought of something more witty....as is my usual thought, after the fact.

I do love the little japs. I now have 2 buff hens, 1 buff roo, and 3 black hens. I will post some pics of the black hens because I think they are crossed or something. They have some speckles of white on them.

Went to a farm around the corner today and she has 80 goats! She has LaManchas, Tollenbergs, Alpines, and a bunch of other kinds. She just had two kids today so i got to watch the little guys try to learn to walk. I also got to pet ALL of the kids!! I love the LaManchas! The little LaMancha kids were all white and looked like little lambs :love She will be emailing me a contract to do a goat share. I can't wait to get some of my own though.

Went to a friends farm today. He's got fainting goats, emus, an ostrich, a hundrend donkeys, lama, a million birds, AND zebras! We had fun walking around petting everyone. I also got a pair of Muscovies. They are still young but fully feathered and should be a pair. He gave them to me for FREEEEEE!
Now what do I do with them. :idunno

I don't know yet....that's what I'm hoping for! :fl
How deep do you plant them? :hide
As deep as you would like just make sure they are noisy side down!
:yuckyuck  :gig

Too funny!!! And too true ... mine were GREAT for keeping down bugs, but too hard to keep home. They annoy my neighbor too, so right now they are in a 400 sf pen with a net over the top. They hate it. :(

If it turns out the geese are good at keeping away snakes and warning me of stuff, and the ducks I hope to get are good enough to keep bugs out of the garden, the guineas might go the way of the "outcast guinea" ... the one all the others hated and who couldn't acclimate to chickens. She was delicious.

Or I might just get keets every year for pest control and eat them when the bug season is over.

Now, muscovies ... CONGRATS!!! I want some so badly. Definitely raise them for meat, and I'd also like to use them for goose incubators, myself. If all goes as I plan, I will probably be eating more rabbit, goose, and muscovy than anything else, but it's easier and cheaper to raise with my setup than chicken and beef. Oh well ... still delicious. :)

I plan on doing some breeding and eating for sure! I'm just not sure how to house these things. I've heard they like to hang out around a pond and I've heard they don't need any water. I have a good size pond that I would like for them to hang around. The pond is a few yards from the house. The last thing I need is another bird pooing outside the front door. :sick Do they need a house? Right now I've got them in a dog kennel with an old pump house as shelter. I figure I will keep them locked up for a couple weeks before letting them free range. I can free range Muscovies right? I know people say they are ugly but I think they're so cute, they haven't gotten all that growth on their face yet and they wag their tails.
