So for how many days do you eat the feed bag of veggies? I noticed your menu is already different BBH, how long have you been doing it? Or do you go back to feeding bag and cooked veggies the next day if you eat a regular meal?:hide

I'm still a newbie at this, but I ate a large bowl/portion of salad greens filled with raw carrots, celery and bell peppers. The egg salad was just piled over all that. So my salad was my "feed bag" tonight. :D

Like Dace, my feed bag has morphed into a big ol salad. (The egg salad itself was full of onions and garlic too...no vampires here tonight.)

I run around all weekend and carrying a feed bag just doesnt work. I try my hardest to get 6 servings of veggies 1/2 raw and 1/2 cooked per day. (That is 1/2 cup sized servings.)

Hope this helps.

Twelve, Sally, TWELVE!!!!

Delia, the "feed bag," as it is so lovingly dubbed, :p is a great tool for those on the go or in the beginning while one is trying to wrap one's brain around the idea of so many veggies. We have been conditioned to eat twelve or more servings of refined carbs, and to congratulate ourselves on the days that we eat 2-3 servings of veggies. (No, V-8 doesn't count! No fiber!)

So it is a big change to flip that around, and eat twelve veggies and 2-3 carbs per day. Each person will adjust that proportion according to what their body needs in order to thrive, along with good fats and meat and dairy and eggs. But in the beginning, getting as many veggies as possible helps restore balance in the digestive tract quickly and helps heal many body systems and restore nutrient needs in a way that the body can handle....quickly. Half raw and half cooked is a concept to make it simple, too, but some people need more of one than the other or all raw or all cooked. Most do well with some of each daily.

Delia...the I used the feed bag as part of my veg consumption for the first few days just because it was an easy way to jump in. It was easy to weigh out 1 lb and know that I was doing well.

I am an early in the day eater, so I seem to be consuming most of my 'obligation' before dinner even rolls around that way if it is dinner time and I am not hungry at least I know I have gotten in the bulk of my fruits & veg rather than filled myself with crap....just my own weird little way.

So I do 5 servings at breakfast (smoothie featuring 5-6 strawberries, 1/2 c blackberries, 1 c spinach or chard or kale, 1 chopped carrot, 1 banana 1/2 c plain yogurt & 1 c filtered water. (5 servings)

Later I either work on a feed bag (2-3 servings), or small feed bag & piece of fruit if I am going to be running around or I will have a nice big salad with at least 2 c of greens and another 1/2 c of veggies. ( 3 servings) I like to add meat and or cheese to my salads to help insure that I am getting other needed nutrients.

Once dinner rolls around I try to have a cooked veg or two. My goal for each day is 10, sometimes I fall short like today I am at 7-8ish. But I don't feel guilt because I did not consume one thing today that was not nutritionally dense and heathy.

This way of eating really does not leave room for extra garbage.....if you are full you don't crave it....especially after you break that blood sugar roller coaster ride.

i do a pretty good job of getting cheese in, cuz I love it! But I need to work on kefir & yogurt....just really not a huge fan of them.

Would that be better than plain yogurt? With the yogurt I don't need to add anything as the fruit sweetens in plenty.

Twelve what? Veggie servings??? Oh no. :/ OK well then I'm mixed up...as usual.

So that is 6 full cups of veggies a day? I have been eating way more than 3 cups of veggies, but prolly not as many as 6 cups. Ok, back to the feed bag. Its all good b/c I love veggies.
