Despite having the animal ups and downs today and this week has been very good. All the puppies went to the vet office today to have their shots and vet checks and everyone passed with flying colours. We then made our way over to a farm just outside of Tweed that breeds Boer/Nubians and Boer/Sanaans to look at her current kids and talk about buying two doelings in a couple months when her next batch of does start kidding. The babies were GORGEOUS. Extremely well taken care of, the mums were all super friendly and happy and stuffed full of hay ;) Babies were so nice, like velvet! I've never held a baby goat before and she gave me one of the little bucklings to hold and pat and he was so sweet! I just *loved* the airplane ears on them, super cute! We met the bucks, all 5 of them, and they were super friendly and were happy just to mill about munching on hay. They also had 2 piggies who were hand raised, they're getting a boar in next week so we may buy a couple piglets from them when they're ready :D

We discussed vaccinating, and fencing, and they had horses too and to top it ALL off the lady was from Croydon, so it was nice to talk about England and such.

She'll be emailing me end of April/Beginning of May so we can come out and pick our 2 doelings and then we'll pick them up at 12 weeks of age. She said if I'd like a more milky looking baby, and I said yes, so she knows what type and everything we'd like. Its all super exciting.

Then we came home to feed the horses and put the puppies back to bed. Miraculously all the EE hens went right into their little coop happily, and the ducks waddled up their ramp right to bed. I then went down to feed Mylie and Luna and for the first time since I bought Mylie she whinnied at me! I was so thrilled. She was super respectful at dinner despite being excited, she moved back when I asked her to, and then I put her feed pan down and threw some hay to her and she just stood there happily munching on her pellets and hay. Even Luna was well behaved at dinner. And Cissy and Mione did super great on the lead walking back to the goat shed. I've been walking them to a small field daily on leads and we're getting better and better at it so I'm hoping in a few weeks they'll be lead-trained.

Overall a brilliant day, nevermind that it was supposed to be 5*C but ended up more like 10-12*C :D:D:D:D:D

Sounds like your experience at a goat farm was as wonderful as mine. I couldn't believe how soft and cuddly the baby goats were. They snuggled right up to me, the same as my kitty does.

How exciting!

Like velvet right? Soooo soft and cuddly and adorable. I'm so excited for her next kidding, we're buying 2 doelings and we get to go back in May and pick them out.

That is great that you found such a good goat farm. Sounds like you can call for advice from her too. Having a local person to get advice from is very important because it is so important for some things to get local advice like vaccines and such.

It is so fun to have the babies around! My 2 little ones are a blast. I have another due this Saturday and then 2 the middle of April.

I hope Accio is doing ok.

Just an odd thing today..

One of the ducks is limping and the chickens were no where to be found when we got home from the store. Completely vanished. We found them in the end but the duck was fine when we left, and its like someone came up here and tried to steal them but couldn't get them and maybe the duck hurt herself on the way. Poor thing, her middle toe is a bit swollen and she is limping but there is no punctures or anything so I put the duckies in lockdown for the night, she's on duck-house rest with the other 2.

Also, Accio hasn't done any business since last night which concerns me. I cleaned his litter box last night (2 smaller urinations in it, one pinkish the other normal) and there has yet to be anything in it since. Not even poop. I'm thinking maybe he's constipated so I'm going to give him a little oil with some food tonight, and I'm going to start adding some wet cat food from a good holistic brand to his food in the morning (Royal Canin doesn't make soft food, but I found one that is grain free and has things like Zukes in it, om nom nom, I could eat it!).

Otherwise he seems NORMAL, he even ate his food with gusto this morning. He kept bothering me until I let him out of my room to go get breakfast.

That is rather odd about your duck. Hopefully you don't have 2 legged predators lurking around. Any curious kids in the neighborhood that would actually take the time to come over?

Hopefully Accio will poop for you.

HA that seriously sent me into giggles. I gave him a bit of extra cat food with some of the soft food (omg the best soft food ever! I will have to recommend this to everyone, it smells like human stew!!) and some oil and he threw it down his throat pretty quick and now he's playing ball lol.

We're up a very long driveway, and our neighbours are all older with the exception of Eric and some very young children (preschool age) up the road. There have been people drinking on Marks land to the left of us (where we found the chickens) and they do make fun of the chickens sometimes, mimicking them. Its really disturbing, next time I swear if I find them i'll send them right to Mark's for an whippin'

Lupinfarm - glad your visit with the goats went so well.

Sorry about Baldyhen. :hugs I didn't realize she was ill. It's so sad having to watch them die. Some people say they "Cross the Rainbow Bridge" and I think that sounds just lovely.

Sure hope your cat improves. We get so attached to our animals and worry when they are ill.

Have a good Friday...

Has Accio been checked for struvite crystals in his bladder?

That's what happened to my cat, he peed blood for about a week (I was on vacation) and the day I came to the pet sitters to pick him up he was almost comatose (she had never bothered to call me).... rushed to the vet and on a catheter and IV fluids for a week. He made a full recovery. Now he eats prescription vet food and nothing else, but he's been happy and healthy since then.
